Xiaomi, a Chinese tech giant, is quite renowned for coming up with affordable smart solutions for customers in China as well as other Asian developing nations. As virtual reality tech witnessed a lot of consumer participation last year in 2016, Xiaomi was quick enough to pitch its first mobile VR headset, the Xiaomi Mi VR Play, into the market.
Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 Headset
Taking its VR ambition even further, the company has recently announced the second iteration, or you can the say the successor, of the Mi VR Play Headset, the VR Play 2. Replacing the previous zipper design of its Play model, the Mi VR Play 2 is made with lightweight “improved” quality materials having soft fabric with the entire design weighing just 183 grams in all.
The Mi VR Play 2 can fit in phones between the size of 4.7 to 5.7 inch and its open design offers enough ventilation to the headset. This Play 2 headset comes with dual anti-reflective aspheric lenses promising best quality visuals. Xiaomi says that the design for Mi VR Play 2 hosts 263 stealth holes in order to prevent the phone from getting heated and offer proper cooling.
Just like other mobile VR headsets, Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 also comes with handy navigation buttons to control the activities on your smartphone. The elastic headband is said to offer a firm and strong grip to your head.
The Xiaomi VR Play 2 comes in a black color shade at a very affordable price of just $14. Though it seems quite similar to the Daydream View in terms of the fabric touch and make, it is still early to expect an at-par performance level with the latter.
There is no word at the moment regarding its availability outside of China. Though its release in other parts of the world will likely mean more of the VR porn lovers embracing this solution who are basically looking for an affordable headset and not willing to spend much.

I’ve never heard of the first Mi VR Play. Does anyone have an idea if this will work with only Xiaomi phones or Android in general?

It works with all phones with size between 4.7inch to 5.7inch…. Moreover, you can also run Google Cardboard apps with it

I think Xiaomi could have done better here, specially with its second iteration… They could have even considered adding some better controller support while charging a bit more… This is quite a repetition with its first model
