Even before Playstation VR2 was officially announced by Sony in February ’22 speculation was rife about just what form the device would take, what would power it, and if it would be both a worthy successor to the original PS VR and a tough competitor in the current (and future) VR hardware market. Sony quickly revealed the design of its next-generation VR headset and controllers, adding to the growing hype and building anticipation. Now Sony has given fans some insights into how the Playstation VR2 user experience will shape its contribution to next-generation virtual reality.
Sony Announces Specs
Playstation VR2 was always expected to be a significant improvement over the original unit and the specs announced by Sony have confirmed that to be the case. Visually, PS VR2 will bring its users 4K HD resolution from dual 2000×2040 OLED displays offering up to 120fps. Adjustable Fresnel lenses serve up a 110° FOV, and foveated rendering is made possible by cameras dedicated to tracking a user’s eyeline.Playstation VR2 also features four embedded cameras to track movement and head position for inside-out tracking as well as haptic headset feedback to bring a “subtle, responsive,” tactile element to gameplay. Sonically, PS VR2 utilizes Tempest 3D audio that dynamically adapts to your stance and movement to allow even further immersion. All of this will run connected by a single USB-C cable to the Playstation 5 console.
Powerful Play: In Your Hands
Adaptive trigger buttons to bring naturalistic tension, similar to Playstation’s highly regarded DualSense controllers, and haptic feedback will provide a more immersive and tactile experience. Finger touch detection provides a natural way for users to make gestures without requiring a button press, while a tracking ring on the bottom of each controller allows them (and a user’s hands) to be tracked by the headset. Familiar to Playstation users, the triangle, square, circle, and cross buttons are returning along with left and right grip and trigger buttons, and Create and Option buttons on the left and right controllers, respectively.Looking Forward to Satisfaction
The only thing that can top a truly immersive, expertly delivered VR gaming experience is, of course, an excellent VR porn experience. Playstation VR hasn’t historically been the easiest platform to enjoy truly adult experiences, but hopes are high that PS VR2 will deliver the goods to porn lovers and gamers. It’s already shaping up to be a top-tier system pitched at a consumer-friendly price range, so expect many of the features of PS VR2 to enhance your virtual sex experiences once it hits stores. For those asking, “When will that be?” Sony has provided an answer. It’s not the most specific answer, but it is an answer nonetheless.
