By this point, I must have voiced my opinion regarding quasi-incestuous stepmom-stepdaughter/stepson-stepmother/stepbrother-stepsister/stepsister-stepsister adult entertainment pretty clearly: I’m not a fan of such content and I deem them to be potentially problematic in legal terms as soon as VR porn really takes off and makes it into a broader spectrum of social strata. People might just start blaming porn studios for their immersive portrayal of incestuous actions exactly like they pointed at video games when teenagers became overly violent in the 1990s and early 2000s.
It’s a never-ending and cyclical debate that can go back and forth for hours without reaching a definite conclusion – but if you’d like to get a broader insight on the matter, you may check out the article I wrote on the ethics of incestuous content.
Regardless of what I or a relatively small number of users might think, the family affairs don’t show any signs of stopping, and the invisible hand favors the development and release of incestuous pornography. You can’t argue with the free market and the supply-demand chain, even if that slightly implies that we’re a generation of big Oedipus clones who fantasize about their stepmoms. In this particular case, the reasons aren’t as important as the facts.
The subject of this review is yet another virtual reality porn which portrays the kind of intercourse whose morality and ethic dimension are slightly below the “passable” line. We’re talking about a release by VirtualTaboo, a studio that specializes in bringing the forbidden fruits of our consciousness into well-lit porn sets, just to deliver a product that simultaneously feels wrong and right.
If you’re into family sexual adventures, then this might just be your flick. Otherwise, there’s plenty of fish in the sea for fishermen who prefer exploring wide rivers rather than throw their sticks into the backyard pond.
“What Happens in Family Stays in Family” by VirtualTaboo
Well, isn’t it lovely when the Vegas rule is turned into a pornographic movie title, just to emphasize on the whole secrecy concept involved? However, there’s a very legitimate reason to wish to keep quiet as a protagonist of this film, and it’s all about one simple 2-syllable word: incest. And we aren’t just talking about the questionable action of screwing the stepmom or stepsister (even though are included later on). It’s all about a mother and her daughter getting involved in a lesbian affair.
Therefore, for the first time in a threesome film, VirtualTaboo has taken the bold step of introducing real incest in the shape of a lesbian affair between a mother and her daughter. Had it been any different in an FFM film, it would have probably portrayed the worse kind of incest: because sticking your hard filthy cock inside either your mother or step-sister is as Oedipal as it gets.
It’s an interesting choice on behalf of the studio, as the whole concept is as edgy, scandalous, preposterous and immoral as it can get in such a situation. To some, this can be the ultimate turn-on and the glorious harvesting and consumption of the hidden fruit. And this is exactly the kind of audience that will get very excited to discover the sinful kinkiness of “What Happens in Family Stays in Family.”
Now, let’s talk about how the film is done: you observe the context from a switching perspective which initially makes you a ghostly presence who watches over the situation as the events unfold and then become the male protagonist as soon as the hardcore action begins. This duality of existence isn’t quite a novelty, but what matters the most is the execution and its overall impact on the quality of the film: and let me tell you by now that it’s done poorly and without much consideration to the pacing or emotional development of the film.
Gala Brown and Esperanza are stunningly beautiful Latin sex performers who display some incredibly bad acting that doesn’t really help with the plot development or credibility.
Usually, I tend to be more indulgent with films and try to look on the bright side by turning the disadvantages into some kind of strength. This time, it’s really hard not to feel like the experience is tedious, rushed, exaggerated, and paced as poorly as a cheesy television-only romantic comedy.
As part of your voyeur role from the first moments of this experience, you find yourself in a hallway which transitions between the elevator and the large room. The concept brings vivid and strong reminiscences to the other elevator-themed film by VirtualTaboo, “Stuck in Mom in Elevator” – which, in many ways, is superior to the current title.
Within seconds, you notice how the elevator doors open and reveal two beautiful women who passionately kiss without caring about potentially being seen. And that’s exactly what happens due to their reckless behavior, as the guy who was probably waiting for the lift notices the incestuous act and looks shocked.
Just to get it all straight, let’s mention the roles: the young Spanish actress Gala Brown, alongside her Latin brown-haired friend Esperanza, play the role of the mother and daughter. It’s not really clear which is which and who is who, as both of them are in their 20s. So in the absence of a clearly-designated MILF, the whole incest angle doesn’t make much sense, but let’s carry on with the description.
You sit through some tedious and annoying moments of dialogue and then get switched to POV perspective for hardcore sex.
The moment when they get caught and the whole tense argument that’s supposed to be presented as a result of the reckless incestuous behavior is as light-hearted and easy-going as a piece of cherry pie on a cozy Saturday afternoon. Though the actors on the set try to express some feelings, nothing looks genuine. Furthermore, as if it wasn’t bad enough, they just rush to undress and jump straight to the sex part.
It’s a big middle finger that the producers are giving to the idea of getting immersed into the action, identifying with one of the characters, and establishing a believable environment where you can have a memorable experience in. It was as if they decided to cut the introduction to its bare minimum, and switch between moods and states as quickly as possible just to jump to the hardcore action.
It’s clearly a bad decision if you care about being involved in the action or being part of an involving story. Instead, you’re switched to the more personal POV perspective and get to have sex very intensely and with a passion that Latins are famous for.
And I don’t want to be misunderstood: the sex is great and incredible. There’s an exciting depiction of standing doggy style which begins straight away in the hallway, before even getting to bed. Then, you get some more doggy style with the babes just behind the couch, switch to missionary for the sake of effectiveness, and gloriously splash your manly juice inside the pussy of Esperanza.
It’s admirable how they avoid the whole cowgirl-centric routine and deliver great sex without relying too much on a static male performer. But it all comes at a cost: it’s very likely that you won’t feel engaged or connected to the events, just because the action feels shallow, rushed, and as awkwardly acted as “The Room.”
There’s a reason why this action is supposed to stay in the family: there really isn’t much to brag about. “What Happens in Family Stays in Family” gets a disappointing 7 out of 10 rating for not being able to live up to its full potential.
I’ve really tried to like it and watch it without the prejudice of a generic incest film. In a way, the fact that there’s some kissing and fingering from two on-script genetically-related women is a really big deal. It’s a sign that VirtualTaboo has crossed that pillar of morality by introducing content that might just stir outraged reactions from those who are more conservative-minded.
However, it isn’t a good film in the first place. If we think about it as an MILF-teen affair with a guy, and completely eliminate any idea that this is a family affair, we still can’t tell which lady is supposed to play which part. If we take the script and then look at the acting, then we will feel terrified by the failed attempts to make it look credible. There’s no legit argument involved, no real seduction or attempt to convince the guy to fall for the sinful proposal, and no reason to believe that any of the events are genuine.
The part that saves the film is the sex itself: if we skip the first few minutes, avoid reading the synopsis, and ignore the movie title, then we might find a lot more excitement and happiness to watch this film. But such an act completely defeats the purpose and makes the studio’s hard work seem redundant. It’s a lot better to criticize the attempt and explain what went wrong than to look for the good parts in spite of the failed delivery of narrative promises.
“What Happens in Family Stays in Family” had the potential to be paradigm-shifting, revolutionary, rebellious, and as anti-patriarchal as can be. However, it displayed signs of mediocrity from its first couple of minutes, which completely take away any chances for this film to be taken seriously as a complete experience. It’s great to watch for the sex itself, but you shouldn’t try to figure out too much because it will make you feel disappointed.
