Three months ago Microsoft released the first images of Dell’s mixed reality headset. However, at the time, there were very few details available about the headset. Now, Dell has officially unveiled the specs of its much anticipated Dell Visor virtual and mixed reality headset and also confirmed that it is debuting on 17th of October, 2017.
The Dell Visor would be the first mixed reality headset to be released in the market based on Window’s mixed reality platform.
Dell Visor Virtual and Mixed Reality Headset
Dell Visor comes with unique control features and specifications. The headset has lights which help it to detect the position of your hands and allows users to enjoy immersive room-scale experiences. Additionally, unlike the Rift and Vive headsets using external sensors, the Dell Visor headset will have two inside-out tracking cameras at the front of the headset for room scale positional tracking.
The front of the visor comes with flip-up functionality that will allow users to easily switch between the real and virtual worlds. The Dell Visor has the same padding on the front and the back of the headband. This makes it very light and comfortable when resting on your head. There is also a rubber flap to let the Visor comfortably rest of your nose. A small opening at the top and bottom of the headset makes sure there is enough air flow for proper ventilation.
Dell Visor Specifications
Coming to the specifications, the Dell Visor has two 2.89″ liquid crystal displays with 1440 x 1440 pixel resolution. The display has a 95-degrees of horizontal field of view and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. Additionally, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack to connect the headphone of your choice.
As mentioned earlier, it has two cameras at the front for inside-out positional tracking. Microsoft has also announced that all its mixed reality headsets will come bundled with its own Windows Motion Controllers which will be an additional advantage.

The company has put the Dell Visor at an official price of $349 which is very competitive considering the current prices of the Rift and Vive headsets. However, buyers will have to pay an additional $99 for the Windows Motion Controllers which come in the bundle package taking the overall purchase price to $449.
In addition to this announcement, Microsoft has unveiled two variants of Windows mixed reality PCs (details of which I will be covering in my next article). The price of one of these PCs would put the entire mixed reality cost at just under $900.

I’m excited about that screen resolution. Hopefully, the screen-door effect is significantly better on this headset.
