A new partnership has appeared in the VR/AR space and it’s between two entities very familiar to anyone paying even an iota of attention to the industry. Google and Magic Leap have teamed up on an as yet unknown project or series of projects. Florida-based AR innovator Magic Leap announced the partnership in a blog post in late May.
Optics and Information
Magic Leap has proven to be an exciting developer of optical systems in the augmented reality space. Google, of course, is the globally dominant supplier of information technologies. Together, these two companies could signal a huge expansion of Magic Leap’s reach as well as a return to the VR/AR arena for Google, whose previous attempts to gain significant market share lost out to Meta, Apple, and others.
Although both Magic Leap and Google would not specify whether or not the partnership would result in the delivery of a consumer device, there’s a strong chance that will be the case. Magic Leap is currently invested in the enterprise market after the less-than-stellar sales performance.
Google has proven to be a believer in Magic Leap’s designs and ambitions, and it invested significantly in the latter company in 2014.
Together Forever (For Now)
Magic Leap had previously discussed a potential partnership with Meta, but this new joint venture with Google suggests that did not work out. Google told Reuters that this partnership with Magic Leap will not impact its relationship with Samsung.Whatever results from this meeting of major tech players is sure to be a boon for the VR/AR industries and the world of virtual porn, too. In exactly what ways? That remains to be seen.
