Porn and Technology
Pornography has a history of popularizing new technologies. A few decades ago, the public embraced VHS because Betamax lacked adult entertainment. Today, porn is once again giving a helping hand to the adoption of one of the latest technologies: augmented reality.
Once you put on an AR (augmented reality) headset, your view of the world is upgraded. Images are projected into your eye, so you see computer-generated objects layered indistinguishably alongside your physical surroundings.
Magic Leap One Creator Edition
One of these headsets, The Magic Leap One Creator Edition, was released this summer and targets developers in AR. Shipped as a fully functional standalone device, it consists of three components: Lightwear (eyewear), a Lightpack (portable computer), and a controller. Although it’s clearly in its early stages, future implications of the Magic Leap headsets seem endless. Imagine wearing the headset outside and having your favorite pornstar projected beside you while you walk your dog; or watching a striptease on your countertop while you cook pancakes for breakfast.
AR Porn Today
Today, most AR experiences are optimized for mobile devices such as smartphones and iPads. An image is layered onto the camera’s view, which is roughly composited on the device’s screen; an example of an app like this is PokemonGo.
One example of AR porn applications for smartphones is ARKanojo, which gives you the experience of having a cute pseudo girlfriend wherever you go.
ARConk was recently released. What differentiates this app from others is it’s capable of projecting a 3D model, in this case, a sexy brunette, into your physical space. Phone in hand, you can inspect her from any angle as you walk around.
One studio, Naughty America, is working on an AR app that aims to project pornstars into its user’s direct surroundings. We can soon look forward to welcoming that invasion of space.
Currently, there are no porn apps specifically optimized for the Magic Leap One. It’s safe to say that once porn apps are developed for the headset, they will undoubtedly feel more immersive than the current AR apps on smartphones. For one, the headset tracks eye movement and scans its surroundings, so you can expect images to be projected more accurately. Not only will porn look real, but it will also sound real. Magic Leap uses three-dimensional audio to accurately represent the position and distance of a projected object. Another advantage worth mentioning, though it may seem obvious, you can put down your controller to have your hands free to do as you please.
Challenges in AR
The Magic Leap One projects images more clearly and more accurately than previous AR headsets. Still, in its infancy, one common complaint about the new headset is its limited field of view. Head-turning breaks the illusion. Reality seems to augment only for a portion of the Magic Leap user’s entire view.
AR and VR porn experience the same challenge when it comes to generating a 3D image that you can interact with from different angles. Breaking an image is a real turn-off.
Fortunately, companies such as CamasutraVR use photogrammetry to build realistic CGI models of pornstars. Once the pornstar is digitized as a 3D model, it may be rigged and programmed to give users a more realistic experience with the pornstar of their choice.
The Future
As computational power and portability of technology increase each year, the possibilities for the Magic Leap seem endless. Right now, AR is in its early stages, but the future looks promising.
Magic Leap 2 Update
Four years after the launch of Magic Leap One and five years after it was first unveiled, the successor to this controversial but very significant AR device is almost upon us.
Among its excellent specs, Magic Leap 2’s display is both wider and, perhaps more notably, substantially taller. For the human-based imagery expected of advanced AR porn, this increased height would provide a more complete and immersive view of performers. Add two tracking cameras per eye to this 70° diagonal FOV, and a near-perfect use of Magic Leap 2 should come to every reader’s mind.Out of the Shadows
Thanks to segmented dimming, Magic Leap 2’s display can lower the light in a room to enable better focus on what it is otherwise displaying. This shows the device to be clearly applicable to highly demanding uses like AR-guided surgery, emergency response management, and a multitude of industrial training exercises.
Unlike Microsoft, the visor-styled HoloLens2, Magic Leap 2 does not allow for use while wearing spectacles. Instead, it will offer insertable prescription lenses to accommodate those users with vision issues.
Retailing for $3,299 USD and set to launch on September 30, Magic Leap 2 isn’t likely to become your new favorite porn viewing device unless you’re well and truly part of the financial elite. But it does bode very well for more aggressive development of AR porn and more widespread AR hardware adoption in the near future.

Its a difficult one with Magic Leap. ATM they’re preventing adult AR companies installing on their device, big mistake on their part! There will probably be a way around it sooner or later but right now HoloLens is looking like the go-to headset.
