The gaming and virtual reality (VR) community has been abuzz since the Playstation VR (PS VR) release. This competitively priced head-mounted display is proving to be a contender of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in the VR arena.
Like with any new hardware or software there are bumps in the road along with pleasant surprises. This post happens to be about one of those pleasant surprises.
Recently, some PS VR gamers in Japan had the brilliant idea to raw dog it with some random HDMI ports while using their PS VR’s. These PS VR pioneers posted their discoverers on Reddit and confirmed that PS VR works as a personal head-mounted display viewer for HDMI devices after being connected to the system’s processor unit, which is shown above.
How to activate Cinematic Mode:
First, find a device with that uses a HDMI input and output, such as a PC, Mac, Xbox One or Nintendo Wii U (all of which have been tested and confirmed).
Second, plug the HDMI devices listed above or the HDMI device of choice into the PS VR processor unit.
Next, after the PS VR is connected to the HDMI device Cinematic Mode will engage.
Finally, once Cinematic Mode is activated a user will be able to use the Playstation VR head set as a personal viewer and can enlarge the output image of the connected device on a massive screen.
Cool right? Yes, but…
The drawbacks of PS VR Cinematic Mode:
There are some drawbacks with this new discovery. The main drawback is that the quality of the image will vary depending on the device. Experiments thus far have shown low-resolution and overall quality, which makes this more of a novelty and is not a practical way to use other HDMI devices with a PS VR.
What about PC VR Users?

PC VR users also have a similar capability using the BigScreen Beta VR application, available on the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, however, it only allows a PC VR user to harness the full power of their desktop in a variety of virtual rooms and with up to four people per room. More details on the BigScreen Beta application will be available in an upcoming post.
Cinematic Mode and VR Porn:
Experimentation on what this discovery means for accessing VR porn on Playstation VR is still underway, but in the mean time, check out the vrporn.com post on How to Watch VR Porn on Playstation VR. This is a great tutorial for new PS VR owners and VR porn enthusiasts alike.
Also, if you are one of the lucky individuals with a PS VR and have been experimenting with other HDMI devices or if you have any other cool tips or tricks, post in the comments below or get paid to write about your discovery for vrporn.com.

Wow, nice find! This means you can hook up your Playstation Vr headset to something and it basically is automatically recognized like a monitor. Except in VR, it’s like a 80 flat screen tv.

That’s actually pretty amazing. I wouldn’t have thought it would work that way. This seems to open up a lot more possibilities.
