At CES 2020, Pico Interactive unveiled details of its forthcoming Pico Neo 2 and Pico Neo 2 Eye headsets, the company’s latest attempt to push enterprise and business use of VR into its next phase. Although the pair of Neo 2 devices, which are expected to retail between $699 and $899 upon release later this year, are still beyond the budgets of many VR porn fans, Pico’s developments again bring promising news to all.
Pico Neo 2 & Neo 2 Eye
Pico’s Neo 2 and Neo 2 Eye share the majority of their specs. True to its name, the Neo 2 Eye adds eye-tracking to Neo 2’s 6DoF room-scale tracking, 101° field-of-view, 360° tracking controllers, 4K display, and 3D spatial audio, all running self-contained on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. With wireless streaming of VR content from your PC and significantly increased freedom of movement of vision, the Neo 2 range raises the standard of Neo’s product line in clearly beneficial ways.
Neo 2 Eye’s integrated eye-tracking joins with foveated rendering to offer more precise focus trained to the user’s gaze. Frame rates are said to be increased by up to 66%, which, along with higher quality visuals and more efficient performance, will give a significant increase in immersion and fluidity of use.
Casual Glasses for Serious Fans
High-end business and enterprise use isn’t the only market Pico seems to be aiming for. At CES 2020, the company previewed what it’s currently calling the Pico VR Glasses. Lightweight with a smaller form factor than Oculus Rift or Go, the VR Glasses utilize a Pico-designed pancake lens system that refracts and reflects through multiple lens elements, allowing the display to be brought closer to both the lenses and the users’ eyes.
With limited internal tracking capabilities, the Pico VR Glasses rely on phone tethering for power and other resources. Its 3DoF tracking may not be groundbreaking, but when you’re watching porn, it’s hardly of major concern. Also aimed at a business market but likely to be priced within reach of VR porn consumers, Pico VR Glasses are designed as casual VR media viewers and suggest the company has its sights set on more budget-minded consumers.
Mozilla to Provide Pico with Reality, Hubs
Mozilla’s recent announcement that it has partnered with Pico to preload all Neo 2 devices with Firefox Reality and Hubs. Also available for existing Pico devices, Firefox Reality is Mozilla’s acclaimed VR browser and will facilitate media, gaming, and more while Hubs brings social and collaborative elements into play. Once this next generation of Pico devices hits and puts Firefox Reality and Hubs in the hands of more VR users, expect a feedback system to bring your more appropriate porn selections and increased interactivity. If you think the arrival of Chatroulette was wild, wait until you’re standing in the virtual presence of those furiously masturbating strangers.
Pico has been a great source of higher-end but still sub-$1000 VR systems in the past and proven a solid option for VR porn lovers with a little more budgetary wiggle room. As this next generation of devices land, there’s every reason to consider throwing your lot in with Pico Interactive.
