Facebook released Oculus Quest roughly one year ago to enormous acclaim and strong sales. Outclassing the more modestly-priced Oculus Go, Quest soon became the company’s leading VR product and promised to influence the development of VR in the near future.
Now that the Oculus Go has been discontinued, and with Oculus Connect 7 looming on the horizon, fans and pundits were expecting the revelation of Oculus’s next generation of VR hardware. Leaked on Twitter by WalkingCat and immediately spreading like wildfire through VR communities, images purporting to show the follow up to the Quest gave some indication of where Oculus might be heading.
The leaked images show an off-white material housing an apparently smaller, more streamlined device that conspicuously lacks an IPD (inter-pupillary distance) adjustment tool. Some have suggested this could be hidden away internally or be controlled through menu commands while using the device.
A New Touch
The controllers shown in the leaked Quest 2 images could be the much-discussed Oculus Jedi Controller, revealed as in-development back in April 2020. Does that mean Quest 2 is the Oculus Del Mar project come to fruition? Whatever the case, leaked controller designs look extremely similar to existing Oculus Touch controllers and may only be a modest upgrade.
Currently, available information points to Oculus Quest 2 (or whatever the official name ends up being) arriving as early as mid-September 2020, but the final word on that is expected to announced at the forthcoming Oculus Connect 7 conference.
OC7: Virtual Edition
Oculus Connect 7 will no doubt bring every salivating VR fan every morsel of information he or she could need regarding the follow up to one of VR’s most ground-breaking, game-changing devices. Going digital this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, OC7 has not yet been officially scheduled but is expected to take place in mid-to-late September.
The first-gen Quest has already proven an excellent porn-viewing platform and after release, quickly became a favorite among VR porn aficionados. It’s likely Quest 2 will follow suit but, depending on the details of its upgrades and improvements, it could also bring a new wave of viewers to high-end virtual sex experiences.
