WordPress today has turned out to be one of the most powerful online publishing platform, powering over 26% of the total websites. This publishing platform has now a great news for its bloggers as it has announced, on its official blog, the support for virtual reality 360 videos and images.
This turns out to be big relief to the bloggers as they no longer need to use any additional plug-ins to upload and display the VR content on the website. With this update, now everyone can create and upload the VR content easily. Also, the viewers over the website will be easily able to watch the embedded content over their favourite headset. The update also supports viewing of regular images and panoramic views in virtual reality.
WordPress aims to make utility of this tool to be very straightforward and easy to its users, without having them enter into much of the technicalities. In a word with WordPress executive Toni Schneider, he says “Our goal is to make publishing VR content as simple as publishing text or photos to the web. Just add VR content to your site and anyone with a web browser can instantly enjoy it”.
Moreover, he also confirmed that this new update will come via the Jetpack plugin to the self-hosted WordPress sites “within the next few weeks”. Jetpack is one of the most used and essential plugins of WordPress used to incorporate many other features in the website.
This new update will let users watch the content in full 3D mode with the new VR options available for the mobile browser and WebVR enabled desktop browser. WordPress has already started this new VR option on major VR headsets like the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR, Google DayDream and Google Cardboard.
With the demand for more richer and immersive VR content growing rapidly, this seems to be one of the most crucial implementations by WordPress considering the fact that the overall WordPress network clocks nearly 15.5 billion page views on monthly basis.
To better understand as how to embed the VR content in different formats, we request you to take a tour at the official WordPress website.
