This week at CES, a new virtual reality headset called “Project Alloy” was shown. Produced by Intel, a new vision of virtual reality was unleashed to the hungry masses. Only demoed as development kits, units of Project Alloy were shown on the floor in early prototype form. Despite being a early prototype, attendees found Project Alloy solidly built and a great looking headset. Intel was showing these new headsets to provide the first look at reference designs for OEM manufacturers. They hope OEM manufacturers will built their own headsets using Project Alloy technology.
What makes the Project Alloy different from other VR headsets?
The addition of “Intel Real Sense” is what makes Project Alloy different from other VR headsets. This 3d camera array was first shown at CES in 2014. Real Sense cameras have been released in a few consumer products so far (including the Dell Venue 8 7000). Real Sense cameras use a mixture of lasers and traditional camera arrays to allow your tablet, smart phone, and computer to potentially “see” in 3d.
By combining 3d computer vision with VR, Intel has created a headset that potentially allows a new form of seeing to be experienced. Called by many journalist “seeing inside out” the Project Alloy is technically almost an inversion of the Microsoft Holo Lens. In demos provided at the floor, Intel’s VR headset was used to project a video feed of the room to users while adding extra 3d objects to what each user was seeing. This works like so.
What is it like?
Imagine being in a room with usual household objects, in this case, lets say one of these objects is a plant which will become another object with some Intel VR magic! The Intel real sense camera scans and makes a 3D map of the room. This map is adjusted as an invisible overlay or set of coordinates.
On these coordinates which are generated by GPS and accelerometers, accurately aligned 3d models are projected. When looking into a headset of this video feed of your room, using object recognition, a plant could be recognized and transformed to virtually morph into any number of other objects—a small fountain, a rocket, a sumptuous candelabra. Observers described the experience of the headset as remarkable and realistic. Beyond the visual experience, most people at the show also considered the device to be comfortable. The head-strap mechanism looks like a mix of that used with a PlayStation VR and an Oculus Rift.
It is Wireless!
Another remarkable aspect of this machine is that its wireless. It remains to be seen whether or not most of the programming will be done within the headset unit itself or streamed using high speed wi-fi techniques. This opens a new world of possibilities for VR. With visuals described to be as good as the Oculus, the Project Alloy could allow the user to move freely around their room while also projecting virtual worlds, or augmenting their real world with different settings or different people.
Without wires you could move around your living space, your virtual world in sync with the real world. This means that your walls could be covered with your favorite posters of total babes. It means that your TV is now 300 inches. It means you can have anyone over to your house. Anyone…
Project Alloy and VR porn?
What does this mean for VR porn as it stands? It means that the VR porn out there now will probably be able to soon be projectable on to your daily surroundings. Your favorite heaving DD donkers can be waiting for you every night virtually in your bed. Prefer the kitchen pantry? No problem. For future projects that integrate Intel’s technology from start to finish, a new virtual smut will be had. It could work like the following:
The actual video would need to be shot using an array of 3d depth sensing video cameras. Using software like that found in the Microsoft Kinect, which can remove objects from their surroundings, the actress could be removed and isolated from the video shoot. As a result a 3d video model would created. Using Real Sense to align this file, the actress would appear as a stable object in the middle of your room. She could appear on your floor or bed as if she was actually there. With this setup, you could see every angle of her while she stripped, fingered herself, or rode a giant dildo. Isn’t technology great?

Intel has kind of gone under the radar, but this technology is really awesome. It’s all-in-one, it’s got inside-out-tracking. Content is always a problem, I hope they integrate with something like Daydream instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

Accelerometer is a great addition in my opinion.. that can help companies add more flexibility for movement.
