The technological pioneers at Terpon are taking virtual reality webcam streaming to the next level. Terpon’s new VR cams are affordable, good quality, and attractive.
Using an innovative alternative business model, Terpon aims to rent out its high-tech webcams rather than to sell them to consumers. They hope this will bring virtual reality webcam streaming to the masses faster than traditional sales methods.
With this in mind, their two webcam models, the Hermes and Artemis, therefore, are risk-free products. With this rental model, high investment costs are removed. There is no risk involved for webcam babes or dudes that want to sign up and give VR webcam streaming a try.
VR Webcam Streaming
First of all, you may ask what is virtual reality webcam streaming? VR webcam streaming will allow cam performers to stream a virtual reality feed to users. In this feed, users can look around via the head tracking unit in your VR headset. This makes it feel like they are there with the cam performers.
Terpon’s cams record with two wide-angle cameras, to provide users stereoscopic 3D video at a 200-degree field of view. Given that the feed is in 3d, the video will really pop. If a performer leans in, massive gazongas or throbbing boners will appear in a lifelike fashion as though they are in your face. Additionally, the 200-degree field of view video beats out the common 180 degrees that most POV virtual reality adult videos use.
Lacking 360 degrees is not as big of a deal as you may think. 200 degrees is suited to the webcam format because most adult action appears in one place anyways. Besides, going full 360 degrees would cut the image quality in half (with full 360 cameras like the Gear VR, two 4k streams are stretched over a full 360 degrees which generally results in a blurry VR experience).
About Terpon
Instead of licensing from other manufacturers, Terpon’s camera, optical, and VR specialists worked hard to produce and develop two virtual reality streaming cameras. This means that they know the ins and outs of the hardware and software associated with their cameras. Terpon argues that its focus on cam development is what makes it special:
We are the original designers, manufacturers, and distributors of every Terpon camera. Creating award-winning optics and producing leading-edge webcams is our core competency. We are not a webcam studio or traffic network, we do not produce content and will not do so in the future.
Although this may initially appear limited, a hyper-focused business and development model results in better products with fewer issues and higher quality standards. For the longest time, Apple adhered to similarly focused business models. In Apple’s early 2000 glory days, Steve Jobs made sure Apple was focused mainly on creating Macintosh computers and iPods.
At their height, Steve Jobs realigned this focus to Macintosh Computers and iPhones. As most everyone knows, it was this limited focus on two products (computers and smartphones) that made Apple the most valuable tech company in the world.
While Apple is still successful, many pundits argue that Apple’s expanding business model – which now includes Apple Watch, iPads, Apple TV, Mac Computers, and iPhones – has resulted in a drop of product quality. Still as an Apple fanboy, I do think Tim Cook is spreading Apple too thinly and that quality is becoming an issue with Apple products.
With all of this in mind, I think that Terpon’s limited focus on producing only two products means the Terpon VR streaming cams will demonstrate high production standards while being both high-quality and well-supported products.
Additionally, Terpon’s sales strategy is also hyper-focused. Instead of producing a VR streaming camera for parents wanting to watch streaming kid videos, live musical event streaming, or any other number of live VR cam scenarios, Terpon is focusing on adult cam streaming. They say:
Our goal is to partner with leading webcam models, streaming content studios and webcam websites to become the premier provider of VR cameras throughout the adult industry.
Once again, I think this makes perfect sense. By focusing on a limited market (the adult live streaming market), Terpon can produce a software and hardware ecosystem that is carefully aligned with adult VR content that is produced and consumed. This means that their cams and software will be designed and developed with the goal of bringing the best possible VR streams to consumers. Going above and beyond, they say:
We work diligently with webcam studios, independent performers, platform owners and device manufacturers to provide the best possible Virtual Reality experience. This includes continual upgrades as new technologies become available and top tier support to ensure a seamless transition from a traditional 2D media environment to a world of truly intimate and exciting 3D VR enjoyment.
Two Camera Models
As I just mentioned, with an Apple-like focus and tight development strategy, Terpon is producing two models of its VR streaming webcams. The lower end model is the Hermes VR Webcam. Its specs are as follows:
Hermes VR Webcam:
- Resolution: 3072×1536 (2x 1536×1536)
- Maximum frame rate: 30fps
- Pixel size: 2.2 µm
- Field of View: 200°
- Plug & Play: With Any USB3 Compatible Computer
- Eco-Friendly Power Usage: < 1 Watt
- Features: Auto exposure & Auto white-balance
- Endurance: Designed for 24/7 continuous use
This VR Webcam has been designed for cam performers just getting their start. As you can see in the specs above, it offers a crisp total resolution of 3072×1536 (3k) thereby providing 1536×1536 to each camera. With most high-end VR headsets offering sub 4k resolution, this is more than enough pixels to provide clear detailed images.
The HTC Vive, for example, offers a total resolution of 2160×1200 while providing a resolution of 1080×1200 per eye. Although the Hermes VR webcam will stretch the image to fill a 200-degree field of view, this amount of pixels is more than enough to provide a clear sharp VR image.
Terpon’s second VR webcam model is called the Artemis VR Webcam. The specs are as follows:
Artemis VR Webcam:
- Resolution: 4K HD 4096×2048 (2x 2048×2048)
- Maximum frame rate: 60 fps WIP
- Pixel Size: 3.45 µm
- Field of View: 190°
- Requirements: Computer Provided By Terpon
- Light Sensitivity: ~ 2.45 better than Hermes
- The Most Advanced Optics
- Advanced Training & Configuration By Terpon
The Artemis is the pro-level model. If you are a professional webcam streamer, this is the cam that you will want to buy. It offers a total 4k resolution 4096×2048 while providing a resolution of 2048×2048 to each eye. Beyond providing high-resolution images, it provides a 60 fps recording which means that the movement of cam performers will be exceedingly smooth.
The 60 fps recording speed will also make head tracking appear smoother with less VR judder. The Artemis also provides better light sensors with a whopping pixel size of 3.45 µm. This means that VR streams can be shot in a variety of lighting situations. With the Artemis, low light intimate Web VR cam streams will be possible and look great.
Requirements
Terpon has worked hard to make sure that their webcam works with the majority of currently available computers. It is both Mac and PC compatible. At the very least, users must have an i5 processor, however, an i7 processor is recommended. Beyond this, only a USB 3.0 port is required.
VR compatibility
Initially, Terpon VR webcams will work with the big name VR headsets. This includes the Oculus Rift, the Samsung Gear VR, and the HTC Vive. Terpon is working to extend compatibility to the majority of other VR headsets.
Why Rental Only?
As I previously mentioned, Terpon is going to let these VR webcams be rented (on a monthly basis) instead of selling them. This may sound odd, but there is a reason they are doing this. Terpon says they are focusing on a rental model because:
We want to make VR accessible at a very low price, we want to avoid the costs of trying to support many versions of each camera at the same time, and we expect to be sending you FREE upgraded devices each year when newer versions of each camera become available.”
This means a few things. First, you do not have to pay full price for an expensive VR webcam. Second, because they will update the rental hardware and software, users will always have top-of-the-line streaming setups. This is great news because VR technology is moving at an exceedingly fast pace.
Sooner, rather than later, Terpon will have cameras with double the pixel capture rate, faster fps capture, and more. By having always up-to-date rental units, VR Cam streamers will be able to provide top quality video streams. Terpon aims to make this upgrade process as easy as possible, they say:
With Terpon, you always get the newest best VR webcam delivered to your address absolutely free! We ship you the new one, you send us back the old one and we even pay for the shipping costs.
Beyond providing cutting-edge hardware and software, Terpon’s rental system offers users flexibility. There are no contracts for renting. Rental subscriptions can be canceled at any time. There is no limit how long you can keep Terpon’s camera either.
Conclusion
In sum, Terpon’s VR Webcams are striking propositions for Webcam streamers. They provide an exciting new medium of VR webcam streaming. Terpon knows that VR webcam streaming will be huge so they are providing an excellent set of cameras that can stream amazing 3D imagery live.
Their focused business approach that allows users to rent two sophisticated 3D webcams will always keep webcam streamers up to date. Streaming professional webcam streamers owe it to themselves to try Terpon’s cameras out.
