The quality of VR videos seems to be the prime area of focus and development for tech companies in the VR industry. This month, big players like Google, Facebook and GoPro have already announced that new camera modules with high-end technological inputs aimed to deliver immersive VR content for better and richer consumer experiences.
While all these companies have implemented new solutions with hardware upgrades, researchers at Adobe believe that we can still achieve a big leap in VR content immersion by fine tuning some of the software algorithms.
Adobe’s New Cutting-Edge Technology Solution
Gavin Miller, head of research at Adobe, has recently presented a new cutting-edge technology that helps you convert the conventional monoscopic 360-degree videos shot by cameras into a stereoscopic video that offers 6 DoF at more than 120 fps. 6 DoF basically gives user the freedom to move in all directions within a recorded video, by exploring the depth of the video and moving closer to the objects in addition to looking sideways of up and down.
Check the below video to get the idea of what exactly you can achieve with 6 DoF.

Adobe’s new solution aims at analyzing the camera movements using their new coined “structure-from-motion” algorithm. As per Adobe’s research paper, this data and information can be used to generate several different perspectives thereby giving users the ability to lean into videos that were earlier not even 3D. Moreover, this same technology can also be used to stabilize the 360-degree video rotation.
However, one major thing that has to be noted while implementing Adobe’s solution is that adding of 6 DoF and making a stereoscopic video from the flat monoscopic 360 video is possible only if the camera is moving. Miller explained “We assume the camera moves to infer the depth. If the camera rotates but does not move side to side we cannot compute depth but can stabilize the rotation.”

This is a remarkable job from Adobe as it sets up a different benchmark that truly immersive videos in virtual reality can also be achieved by proper software implementation rather than just moving towards expensive camera hardware.
Such developments in the VR industry are here to set a new precedence and shows that we are just a few months away where the technology reaches to most of the VR headsets users who can enjoy truly immersive content on-the-go. However, to enjoy 6 DoF, you still need to make sure that your VR headset offers positional tracking features like the Rifts and the Vives.
Once Adobe’s solution is available for commercial use and VR porn studios start implementing it, porn lovers can enjoy the 6 DoF by smashing their faces against the pornstar’s boobs and moving your tongues closer to lick pussies. This will also make it easier for studios to shoot and record 360 video content at affordable pricing which means we will get more immersive rich content to watch our favorite stars performing.

6DoF really adds a lot more immersion and interactivity to 360 videos… With affordable solutions like this, it seems that we are soon to set a high-quality VR videos benchmark
