The virtual reality (VR) “world” is expanding rapidly and really has no bounds, because it is in fact virtual. It seems like almost every day a new space is emerging for VR enthusiasts to gather and partake in various activities.
There are a number of VR applications out there that are trying to tame the wild stallion of VR space and give it more definition and focus. One of my favorite cross-platform VR hang out spaces is AltspaceVR. The premiere app for hanging out with people in virtual reality let’s VR users father and congregate to attend comedy shows, political debates, explore a mazes, draw in the air, play D&D and try a range of card games and activities.
AltspaceVR is also cross-platform, which means it has Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Smartphone VR users in the same rooms.
PSVR Support:
AltspaceVR would be an awesome addition to the PSVR and to the VR community at large. On various forums this question has been raised. Below is an official comment by AltSpace VRs community manager.
“Hey there Altspacers! We love being cross platform, and being available to as many users as possible is important to us. Right now no announcements for PSVR. We’ll yell it from the rooftops if that changes!” ~Lisa, Community Manager.
Props to Lisa by the way, she is doing a wonderful job trying to bring big names in for interviews and planned community events.
My First AltSpace Experience – The Third Presidential Debate
My first Altspace VR Experience was during the third 2016 presidential debate. When I saw that there was going to be a live stream of the debate in VR, I was instantly intrigued, so I checked it out.
It was actually a really interesting way to view the debate. There are some photos below. There were roughly 30 avatars in the democracy plaza at a time. Altspace VR offers voice chat, so the comments made by total strangers made viewing the debate even funnier.
I also checked out the recent Altspace VR event with Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty, Accounting VR) and Reggie Watts (Comedy Bang Bang, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert).
These two VR enthusiasts were hilarious and this new way to view comedy shows and interviews will have me checking in to see what AltspaceVR has in store in the coming days and weeks.
