Many tech giants like Google and HTC and several other startups/companies are already working towards the development of Augmented and Virtual Reality. However, tech titan – Apple – has been shy for a long time to comment anything about is plans and ambitions in this technology segment.
A recent Facebook post by blogger – Robert Scoble – claims that the Cupertino based tech giant – Apple – is working with popular German optics manufacturer – Carl Zeiss, for a light pair of augmented or mixed reality glasses which could possibly be announced later this year. These glasses would wirelessly connect to Apple devices showing images and other content in the wearer’s field-of-vision.
This news can certainly spark attention among tech enthusiasts, as it strengths previous rumors about ‘Apple’ possibly working on an augmented reality hardware. Last year in November 2016, a Bloomberg report suggested that Apple is testing near-eye displays for AR and MR concepts.
Other reports during the same time also claimed that Apple is likely to integrate augmented reality in the iPhone camera. Also, some of the filed patents at USPTO – like Transparent Electronic Device which could overlay images over real-world objects – hints at Apple to be working for AR tech.
However, nothing concrete could be said at the moment about Apple’s plans. Though, Apple boss Tim Cook has previously expressed his interest in the Augmented Reality tech. During his interview to ABC News, he said “There’s virtual reality and there’s augmented reality — both of these are incredibly interesting. But my own view is that augmented reality is the larger of the two, probably by far.”
Computing rival – Microsoft – has already announcing its HoloLens AR headset, that works with several applications for 3D modelling and gamers, and the company is likely to bring it to retail markets ahead this year. No doubt, Apple will have to face the competition heat and flex its muscles, if it wants to lead the charge with this new product category, as it did in the smartphone segment.

but in my opinion.. when apple gets into a new technology they always come up with a market leader product. Although I agree that their innovation died with Steve jobs but still hope for a great product by them.

Apple is way behind the curve. Google, Samsung, Facebook are all making interesting VR technology. Meanwhile, Apple is selling the same tech they have been for years and profits are dropping.
