After years of minor patent leaks, insider hubbub, and statements direct from Cupertino pointing to the development of Apple’s first AR (Augmented Reality) hardware, iProduct devotees now have something to look forward to: a projected 2020 launch.
CEO, Tim Cook, has made it clear that Apple sees AR as having the same revolutionary potential as the smartphone and that we’ll soon be augmenting our reality on a near-constant basis. For avid VR porn viewers aware of Apple’s attitude towards sexual content, this may not be the most exciting tech news of 2019, but don’t go dismissing it just yet.
“..we do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone.” – Steve Jobs, 2010
This famous claim by Steve Jobs hasn’t been entirely able to prevent, well, porn on iPhones. Millions of iOS users worldwide can view porn, just not with an approved app. Even VR porn has been available to iPhone devotees via a range of third-party headsets and viewers. So, take that, Apple.
What’s In Your Pocket
Anticipation for the next iPhone, expected around September 2020, is still ramping up, but 5G support and 3D cameras are considered certainties. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted a bezeled front panel containing ambient light and proximity sensors, an infrared camera and flood illuminator, speaker, mic, front camera, and a dot projector (used in face mapping). Also expected by Kuo, a time-of-flight sensor may offer significantly increased depth perception, which will benefit any AR experiences Apple chooses to put forward. The hardware is expected to be manufactured by third-party brands. Smart glasses capable of running AR are also expected in 2020, with Apple having long shown to be developing such a device.
AR or VR? Por Que No Los Dos?
With Apple clearly preparing a major AR project for launch and all that’s known about the next iPhones, porn fans can expect to see porn studios further pushing into AR content creation. Naughty America already has a firm AR program in place, allowing you to place a virtual porn star in your preferred personal space. Ever wanted to watch Adriana Chechik gyrate on your favorite rug? How about bending your favorite VRConk star over before work, courtesy of ARConk? Maybe you’re weren’t aware, but you already can! Both these acclaimed VR porn studios are banking on AR, giving VR a challenge in winning over porn consumers and continually pushing their AR projects to new heights. It’s one thing, after all, to immerse yourself in total fantasy but another thing entirely to customize your own sexual reality as you see fit.
Speaking of customizing reality: Apple’s 2015 acquisition of FaceShift led to iPhone X’s Animoji, but it could see AR porn developers providing us with the chance to place our own faces and bodies into an AR experience and to interact with virtual elements using our natural means of expression. If your desires lean toward the fantastic, the same tech that allows actors to animate a character’s face by performance alone could let you become the pixie-boning ogre of your wildest dreams. Popular adults-only girlfriend simulators allow you to take the nubile young beauty of your dreams on dates in real-world locations, along with spending time in fully private VR environments. There’s extraordinary potential for AR to supplement our sex lives on a near-constant basis; some even worry we’ll eventually relegate sex to the virtual world altogether.
Aside from Apple’s commitment to “morality,” there’s every reason to expect that, smart glasses or otherwise, standalone headset or iPhone add-on, Apple’s AR hardware won’t stop the next wave of AR and VR porn developers getting their very adult wares in front of our eager eyes. And if the AR porn already on offer is any indication, this is going to be an exhilarating trip.

Design Issues and Trademarks Made
Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Tech Research, said in early November 2022 that Apple is likely to push back production of its AR glasses until 2025-2026 due to unspecified “design issues.” This came after Pu had earlier this year stated the glasses would arrive in late 2024. Such news should not come as a complete surprise. Creating AR glasses is a massive undertaking, and Apple surely wants to avoid a situation like the launch of Google Glass, massive hype but weak reception, and minor adoption.
Trademarks have been spotted for Reality One, Reality Pro, and Reality Processor in the USA, EU, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica, and Uruguay, lending more support to the idea that Reality will be Apple’s umbrella brand for its AR devices, platforms, and apps. RealityOS was already trademarked just prior to Apple’s most recent WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference). None of these trademarks were secured directly by Apple, instead being the work of presumed shell companies Apple has used in the past.
