Apple’s AR Streaming Plans

Staying home during the months of isolation or quarantine has placed some additional focus on our reliance on streaming entertainment services. Told to consider what previous generations sacrificed so we could persist, many heeded the call to “Stay home and watch another Netflix series,” but ended up finding it disappointing. With Virtual Reality booming, Facebook taking stronger command of Oculus and its users, and next-gen products like the forthcoming iPhone 12 and Apple Glass bringing Augmented Reality capabilities to the largest user base yet, it was already apparent that AR would play a significant part of the entertainment of the near future.

As it so often has, Apple appears to be pressing ahead quietly while aiming to change digital entertainment consumption forever. Reports leaked to Bloomberg say Apple TV+ will start offering supplemental AR content to properly equipped viewers as en effort to both enhance the immersive qualities of today’s digital golden age of television and further implant AR as a tool for varied everyday use. A mid-game replay could be explained using an AR blackboard; a science documentary could supply animated AR scale models of, say, a DNA molecule or a dinosaur fossil. For adult viewers with adult interests, this announcement is also quietly exciting.

Apple Inc. may not be an ardent supporter of sexual commerce, but it has strongly influenced the tech behind today’s buzzing VR and AR porn industries. Once Apple TV+ brings AR add-ons to the masses, expect porn producers to be right there beside the house that Jobs and Woz built.
