Long popular with gamers and now a staple communication tool for many online communities and subcultures, chat app Discord has acquired Ubiquity6, an augmented reality cloud platform launched with the stated goal of “pioneering multiplayer technology and infrastructure for new kinds of shared experiences.”
Discord Dives Into AR
Ubiquity6 has been focused on the social opportunities for augmented reality, creating the 3D environment and asset creation tool Display.land and following it with Display.land Studio, “the world’s fastest way to create and share multiplayer 3D, AR and VR games and experiences that blend reality and imagination.”
After largely sidelining AR to pivot to family-friendly 2D multiplayer gaming during the COVID pandemic, Ubiquity6’s social gaming and interaction app Backyard has now been discontinued and is headed for integration into Discord. How Discord will utilize Ubiquity6’s assets to enhance and expand the Discord experience remains to be seen.Keeping mum about the details of both the acquisition deal and Discord’s further plans with AR, Ubiquity6 co-founder and CEO Anjney Midha gave little away, saying, “Our mission at Ubiquity6 has always been to unlock new ways for people to connect through shared experiences. Joining Discord today allows us to accelerate that mission.”
New Naked Networks
Adult social networks and platforms loaded with AR interactivity isn’t just a fantasy anymore. Ubiquity6’s commitment to highly interactive social AR is not only encouraging on its own but a major coup for Discord and comparable platforms.Making an explicit AR pseudo-world available to adults and inviting those adults to customize and truly create their own fantasy environments and situations – which could also be shared between users or jointly interacted with in a multiplayer fashion – is arguably the most inevitable of all porn’s possible futures. However, Ubiquity6 will expand and enhance Discord, VR, and AR porn lovers can be sure it bodes well for the future of their online sex lives.
