Most virtual reality headsets have one of the two following problems. On one hand, if they are portable like the Gear VR or Google Cardboard. Such portable headsets always have short battery life. Watching virtual reality videos on your phone leaves your phone dead and makes it impossible to answer calls and texts while you are in VR. On the other hand, if you are using a big computer driven headset like the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive, you will be tied down to the computer while feeding the growing wirenest problem that is consuming humanity.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Right? Wrong!
A new headset called ExChimp is hitting the Kickstarter scene and already funded itself by advertising that it will be completely portable and lightweight, all while having a magnificent 7-hour battery life. This means you will be able to have the 7-hour wack-sesses that are not possible with current technology. With its amazing battery life, this headset looks like it could be the perfect virtual reality porn consuming machine. Describing the advantages of their headset, ExChimp’s CEO says:
The big disadvantage of all-in-one virtual reality headsets results in carrying everything on your head, not only display and sensors but also processor and battery. But that’s not necessary! Therefore, we decided to take the heavy parts from the headset and put them in a separate control bar which fits perfect in the palm of your hand. So, the headset itself weights only 389 grams. Another major advantage of having processor and battery in the control bar is that the headset does not develop any heat compared to head mounted smartphones.
Specs
The headset will provide sharp visuals. It comes with a QHD screen that displays at 2550 x 1440. This resolution is crammed into a 5.5-inch screen so the pixel density will be pretty high. It’s not going to be better than a Gear VR but somewhat sharper than an Oculus Rift. Beyond the resolution, this lil spanker’s screen has a decent refresh rate. At 60mhz, it is fast enough for video content but it won’t be as smooth as a 90mhz Oculus Rift. It also has a fairly standard 100-degree field of view.
This device is able to last a full 7 hours because it has a beefy 4750 mah battery in a control unit. This battery is much bigger than what is included in cellphones (3000 mah on average). Without having to deal with a cellular signal and other phone type applications, this big battery helps provide the 7-hour battery life. As the CEO mentioned, this headset is also special because of its extremely low weight. The headset weighs only 389 grams because most of the heavy components have been moved to unit’s controller.
Beyond the well-rounded specs mentioned above, the headset also has two spacey storage configurations of 16/32gb. It uses an Atom X5 processor which allows the headset to sip from the battery while providing a decent amount of power to the Android-powered operating system. Its OS, called Nibiru OS, is a custom Android fork designed for VR. It will have full access to the Google Play Store while accepting memory cards for 360 videos.
Conclusion
Nothing about this headset is particularly exciting, however, the unit’s long battery life should allow this headset to fill a unique niche. Users that demand portability, long battery life all in a lightweight package will love this baby. As I mentioned earlier, these two elements may add up to a VR unit that is more than the sum of its parts because long battery life, portability, and comfort are key elements for watching VR porn videos all day and all night. This headset will ship to Kickstarter backers 9/17 and normal consumers 11/17.
