Fogging Up the Headset #3 – “Slippery Delivery”

Welcome back to Fogging Up the Headset, the show where we talk about an almost purely subjective medium objectively and get away with it.

Today’s target is the scene “Slippery Delivery” from the good people over at NaughtyAmericaVR, starring Ariana Marie. Ariana Marie is a personal favourite, especially over the last couple of years. Setting the Scene

The scene starts with Ariana next to a very saturated-looking backyard pool in a very skimpy bikini. There’s no protagonist yet, but we’ll get there. I don’t know if that’s an actual thing people do or if it’s just for the porn. It’s probably the latter.

She then starts doing a striptease. If you’re wondering “But why is she doing a striptease if no one except the fourth wall is there to see it?” I would answer “because porn.”

After she successfully gets naked and enters the pool, she gets a phone call (1:47). This is actually so typical of my life. Once I start doing something like take a shower or take a shit, I’ll get a phone call or someone will knock on the door. Could you not have called like a few minutes earlier? There are lots of little subshots in this scene but there are four main ones. The first one is outside, with the protagonist (absent at first until he breaks in at 2:12). The second (6:55) is inside and has the man standing up. The third (12:33) is sort of a variation of the sitting lotus except both the protagonist and Ariana have their legs extended (instead of crossed). The fourth shot (20:00) has the protagonist lying down.

Lotus Position

We haven’t really had a chance to talk about the lotus position on FUTH. A variant of it is done pretty well in this scene (12:33) so let’s talk about it. Part of the reason I’m drawn to Ariana is her face. It’s probably my favourite asset of hers. So, I’m saying right now, I may have a bit of a bias towards both this lotus position and her cowgirl position simply because I get to see more of her face.

In terms of Ariana’s lotus technique, she tends to gyrate her hips, in circles, on the tip of the penis. While this would be fine to break up the thrusting motion of the penis…but there was barely any thrusting. Any thrusting she did was only taking a very superficial amount of the penis. I wish she took a bit more of the shaft because it does look good going in and out. That being said, she does start to show more physical exertion (toward 16 minutes) which does add to the believability of the position.

Ariana also knows what porn phrases she’s allowed to say. During the lotus sequence, she makes comments on (15:23) “stretching that little fucking hole.” While other pornstars tend cycle comments about tight their obviously-not-tight pussy is, it actually works in Ariana’s case. Because of her small stature, it’s not so much a stretch in the mind of the viewer to think “Oh, she’s probably got a small tight pussy.” Whether or not it’s true is another story, but it’s believable and that’s why it works.

Another example of this is how she says (18:43) “like watching these perfect titties bounce?” Ariana knows she can’t get away with saying “big titties” but “perfect titties”? It’s up for debate at least.

There’s about a 10-second clip of the lotus I really like (19:40). Ariana sticks her left arm over the protagonists left shoulder so she’s up and close with the camera. As the thrusting motion occurs, you can hear the audible slap of skin against skin. During this, she brings her face right up to the camera and kisses it. It turns me on so much when a pornstar kisses the camera in VR. Even if you do go cross-eyed for a second, kissing is just so sexy to me and I think it’s an excellent use and an advantage of VR. This little 10-second intimate clip is what I wanted more of.

The Road to Cumshot

Unlike the other scenes I’ve pulled apart in this series, the cumshot of this scene doesn’t happen as soon as the guy pulls his dick out of the girl’s pussy. What’s interesting about this scene is that they cut to the shot containing the cumshot (38:08) but it’s not for another minute and a half (39:25) that the man ends up cumming. I think this is supposed to be a warning to the viewers. Lots of guys like to cum around the time when the protagonist cums so, in a sense, it’s like they’re cumming on Ariana’s face too. It’s a good idea, in my opinion (I feel like this is something people might disagree on), but I do think that the 77 seconds they give you is a long time. I don’t think it should be any longer than 30 seconds because if a viewer has watched through the entire 40-minute scene, chances are if they haven’t cum already, they’re on the edge. So good idea, but implementation could use work.

I liked the suspense this generated to see the new angle.

A Note on Breaking up Monotony in Porn

If you, as the viewer, watch the same sex position in porn for too long, you’re going to get bored. That’s sort of a turn-off. What I think this scene does really well is breaking up long sequences of the same position with a bit of variety. Even if the ‘variety’ is a bit lackluster, it works because what we don’t want in a 40-minute scene is 10 minutes of blowjob, 20 minutes of cowgirl and 10 minutes of doggy.

Let’s take the lotus position of this scene as an example. It lasts roughly seven and a half minutes (12:33-20:00) but it doesn’t feel like it lasts seven and a half minutes when you watch it. Instead of having it last so long, they added a blowjob (15:50). Not an excessively long or even great blowjob. Just 30 seconds or so, followed by a kiss, then back into the lotus. Even though the blowjob isn’t that great, it serves its purpose.

Breaking up monotony is much more relevant in virtual reality porn than non-VR porn. Instead of doing any position you want as in non-VR, you’re confined to using more simpler positions (unless you’re doing voyeur VR). This means it’s harder to find variety in VR porn by simply adding more positions because there aren’t enough positions to use. This runs the risk of scenes becoming monotonous and boring.

Reorganising the structure of the scene is a good way to break up monotony (as we saw in this scene) but there are other ways too. Actresses that are particularly good with dialogue could spice things up with different vocal quips and comments. You could also shorten the scene so no position overstays its welcome and the cumshot comes faster.

Story elements could be another idea. Let’s say you have a step-sister scene. She seduces you or vice versa and you start fucking. But then, halfway through the scene, your step-mother walks in and says “You’re not doing it right. Let me try.” And then you have a threesome scene from then on. This goes a long way to keeping things interesting and retaining viewer attention.

Final Thoughts

I think when I wanted to break down this scene, I was always going to like it simply because it had Ariana Marie. But even if I force myself to look at it objectively, it is genuinely a good scene. It does a ton of stuff right like getting out of the outdoor wind as soon as possible, having a stunning sitting lotus position, providing lots of kisses (<3) and incorporating nice structuring to avoid overly repetitive sequences. It does have downfalls, as all scenes do. The main ones that come to mind are that the blowjobs were a bit lackluster and the story was a bit unbelievable (even for porn).
