Building a virtual or augmented reality application is serious work. The type of content required for 3D environments is very different from traditional media and it requires extra rendering tasks that can be very taxing for developers.
Google Poly Is Here to Make Things Simpler
In order to make things a bit simpler, Google has announced a new platform named ‘Poly.’ Google Poly is an application that allows users to browse and download 3D objects and scenes in VR and AR. Poly is said to be completely integrated with Google VR’s painting and sculpting apps like Tilt Brush and Blocks. Poly consists of a huge library of 3D objects that are platform independent and can even work with Google’s ARCore and Apple’s ARKit.
While Tilt Brush and Blocks already have their own different galleries, namely ‘Sketches’ and ‘Objects,’ Poly is a combination of the two with a more comprehensive collection of scenes and 3D objects.

As per Google, all 3D artists can upload their work for free on the Poly platform. Other users can then remix the already uploaded and created objects. A new listing will be created that will be credited and linked back to the original creator of the model
The new site of Google Poly allows for direct uploads via browser with a simple drag and drop feature for MTL and OBJ files. The design language followed here is quite similar to that used across other Google platforms.
The great thing about Poly is that it allows objects to be pulled directly into the VR workspace where you can view and edit them. Additionally, it also allows for quick GIF creations to share the 3D objects and models more easily.
Poly seems to be an exciting new application for creating 3D models that include not only geometric objects but detailed characters as well. Its implications for VR porn are still unclear but, whenever a platform relies on user-generated content, you can rest assured some users will make find a way to make it sexy.
