It seems, Google is taking its mobile-based Daydream VR platform very seriously and is all set to take it even further! Just when a few days ago, the search giant slashed the price of its Daydream VR headset to $49 from $79, there is one more good news coming our way from the tech biggie, and this time it’s for the developers.
Google has recently opened the floodgates and encouraged developers all-over to submit their apps on the Daydream platform. On its developer website, Google has listed some instructions for developers to submit their applications and stated that just like Android, developers can submit their app for the Daydream platform on the Google Play Store.
This invitation comes along with Google’s specific requirement and emphasis on quality. So developers should make sure, that if they really want to see their creations listed on the Play store and thus on the Daydream platform, they will surely have to live up to Google’s expectations and meet the quality assurance guidelines.
Google’s Message to Developers
Ever since the launch of its Daydream View VR headset back in September 2016, Google has made it clear that it will not compromise on the quality of apps. After all quality-immersive content has been the basic premise of virtual reality technology and no sane company would give a let-go to it!
So with an attempt to prevent the Daydream platform from getting flooded with poor quality apps, Google initiated its Daydream Access (DAP) program. Only a few selected group of partners were allowed to be a part of this program. However, Google has now removed the DAP restrictions and any developer can submit their own creations to the Daydream platform once they meet the quality requirements.
In Google’s own words “Upon publication, Google Play submits apps that are opted-in to Daydream for review against the Daydream App Quality criteria and notifies you of the result. If your app meets all criteria, Google Play makes it discoverable to Daydream users in VR.”
However, while ensuring the quality of apps on the Daydream platform, Google will also have to keep pace with more number of apps, for users to try different options. There is absolute no limit one can set in terms of sufficient user experience, especially in this competitive and rapidly growing VR segment.
Now with the anticipation that more number of developers trying their hands for the Daydream Apps, this year we could possibly see more people joining the Daydream VR experience.

No such specific guidelines furnished by the company… It would be great to see Google getting it under adult content

I don’t think so buddy!! Google is leaning towards clean content and filters for adult stuff. Last year they did major revamp in google image search to discourage showing adult content.
