It seems that Google is still determined to continue with its line of affordable mobile VR headsets. Having already planned to release a line of standalone VR Headsets (in partnership with HTC and Lenovo) later this year, Google is also moving ahead with its mobile VR headset lineup. Earlier this week at a special event, Google announced its new Daydream View headset along with its 2017 flagship smartphones – Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

With the new Daydream View, Google has tried to tweak some features of the existing version and bring considerable enhancements and design changes. In this new version of the Daydream View, Google has put its focus on the comfort quotient of the headset making it more lightweight. The facial interface is softer and larger, offering a comfortable fit on your face for hours-long VR Porn viewing sessions. With the new Daydream View, Google has also solved the issue of light leaking through the edges of the headset – something that the previous version was known to suffer from.
To evenly distribute the headset weight, Google has added a top strap to the headset just like Gear VR. The strap also provides a small loop to hold the controller behind the head, when not in use. The controller design remains the same, however, this time the buttons are more pronounced.
Technical Improvements in the New Daydream View
The 2017 Daydream View version comes with the new custom designed Fresnel lenses that improve the field-of-view by 10 degrees.
This time Google has put a heat-sink inside the phone cradle which ensures efficient heat dissipation and passively cools the smartphone in use. This keeps your smartphone at peak performance while being intensively used. This also means that the overheating issues will no longer cut-short or interrupt your steamy VR Porn sessions.
However, just like the previous version, the new Daydream View comes with an NFC chip. This means the moment you snap your Daydream View compatible smartphone in the headset, the NFC chip will automatically detect it and initiate the VR mode. It also includes the capacitive bumpers which ensure a precise orientation of your smartphone in relation to the lenses and aligns the on-screen display.
The new Daydream will be compatible with all the Daydream ready smartphones and will go on sale later this year with a price tag of 99 USD in three color options of Fog, Charcoal, and Coral.

Now it remains to be seen whether Google grabs this space as the most dominant player in mobile VR headsets and beat Samsung’s Gear VR… I believe Google has a good chance of doing this in the entry-level mobile VR headsets reason being Samsung seems to have shifted to high-end VR headset versions by collaborating with Microsoft and Google… However, the Gear VR’s display quality which has been its USP is still a killer feature in itself …. Well, it seems, the competition is going to be intense in the entry space VR headsets.
