From the very first moment, human minds conceived of a virtual reality, one elusive goal has remained impossible to reach: tangible virtual reality. That is, VR items, objects, and characters you can physically manipulate as you would, say, a fork on a table. Apple’s hotly-anticipated entry into the VR/AR hardware market, currently known as “Apple Glass,” now looks to be bringing users exactly that kind of game-changing control.
Filing for Fondling
Filed in January 2020, a patent application for “Manipulation of Virtual Objects using a Tracked Physical Object” details how Apple plans to mix realities and bring the virtual and the material into the same accessible space.
“Lacking a means to directly interact with virtual objects presented to a user as part of a computer-generated reality (CGR) environment limits a degree to which the virtual objects are integrated into the CGR environment. Thus, it may be desirable to provide users with a means of directly manipulating virtual objects presented as part of CGR environments.” – “Manipulation of Virtual Objects using a Tracked Physical Object”
Referring in the patent application to the real-world objects involved in the process as “proxy devices,” Apple appears to use the same cameras that help place AR elements correctly in a space to then let them be physically manipulated. At this stage, it seems Apple Glass will essentially be capable of mapping a virtual object onto a real-world material item, allowing users to use a piece of paper as a digital sketchpad, a book as a virtual iPad or even something a bit softer, curvier, and more inviting as a sexual partner.
Apple Against Adult
Apple may have a longstanding public distaste for adult content, but that hasn’t stopped tech-minded porn fans using Apple’s devices to help get their kicks in the digital age. From those early 240i iPod-Video-compatible smut clips to the forthcoming Apple Glass and its infinitely wider possibilities, Apple is aiding the development of porn, whether it wants to or not.
Placing your hands on an object while immersed in augmented reality and feeling, manipulating, sensing, and controlling it in myriad ways has an obvious application in the erotic arts. Currently available full-body dolls and AI-enhanced sexbots are bringing unreal lovers into our lives, but they remain firmly planted in the “real” world. A device like Apple Glass could push VR and AR developers to more fully embrace tangibility. For porn users, this means applying an AR model or character onto a sex doll, dressing yourself or your partner up in a variety of kinky (and usually expensive) outfits, or even appearing as your partner’s secret fantasy fuck – if you’re brave enough, and if the future does indeed deliver the goods.
Porn, Privacy, and Personal Space
Even if this tech falls short or bringing you an AR/AI/DTF artificial sex partner, it will certainly make your private porn watching a lot more versatile. To the rest of the train carriage, it looks like you’re reading a financial report or sales proposal when, really, you’re watching your favorite performer tantalize you in a steamy private display that’s very much NSFW.
Apple Glass is rumored to be arriving in late 2020, early 2021.
