Oculus Into the Future
Many of the brightest talents involved in Virtual Reality converged on San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center earlier this week for Oculus Connect 6, the VR giant’s annual two-day conference, and garnered a first-hand preview of the future of one of VR’s most roaring success stories. Both major overhauls and minor tweaks to the Oculus agenda were revealed over the course of the event. Which announcements bode well for the future of virtual reality porn has been largely left for the audience to determine. Of course, nobody at Facebook or Oculus lowers themselves to deal directly with the virtual sex industry but keen VR porn users will no doubt be quick to see the benefits of Oculus Link, hand tracking, and Facebook’s planned Horizon virtual social environment.

Oculus Link may essentially be a premium USB-C cable to connect your all-in-one Oculus Quest to a PC for superior playback, Steam access, and a vastly increased library of games. Connecting directly to your PC while using VR still cannot be topped by unwired VR devices but Link aims to bring those worlds closer together to allow more fluid movement between wired and unwired options. To thrust yourself as fully as possible into a rich virtual sex environment, you’ll want to keep your soon-to-be-obsolete Rift S or snag a forthcoming Oculus Link and boost your Quest’s capabilities.

While the announcement that Oculus and Facebook are actively developing Augmented Reality (AR) glasses didn’t exactly set the tech world on fire, there’s another project being working on by Facebook’s Reality Labs that also blends the virtual and the real, social worlds in a more immediately exciting way.
Facebook Horizon may seem like a VR version of Nintendo’s discontinued MiiVerse or any other gaming and social avatar-filled platform. In actuality, though, it aims to provide a safe virtual space for users of all kinds to interact. If your mind leans to the lascivious, it’s a small leap to adults only arenas that allow users to adopt avatars and enter orgies, swinger’s parties, or wild gangbangs in which every participant is a real human sitting somewhere near the peak of arousal. Any external obstacles or personal reservations that had once prevented you from engaging with a more debauched strata of society will disappear once something like Facebook Horizon bleeds over into the world of virtual sex. The first adult studio to facilitate a mass worldwide virtual orgy will undoubtedly earn ample mainstream attention, as well as endless respect from fans.

Arguably the most exciting tech revelation of OC6 was also one of the most expected: hand tracking. Coming to Oculus Quest in beta form early next year, and expected to be widely released soon thereafter, Oculus’s hand tracking system uses front mounted cameras to detect and locate its users actual hands without needing gloves or wearable sensors. Merging the virtual and physical worlds aims to conquer the major remaining boundary to VR’s effectively and adoption: true interactivity.
