Microsoft released the original HoloLens to developers in March 2016 and went on to sell more than 50,000 units before announcing its successor at the 2019 Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Spain. A mixed-reality device, the original HoloLens allowed virtual elements to be placed in real-world environments and was aimed at enterprise and industrial use. Sporting a refined design and improved specs, HoloLens 2 may not make it onto your shopping list, but it’s nonetheless a significant step forward in mixed reality – one that bodes well for MR porn, too!

Priced at $3500 and not targeted at your average MR newbie or VR consumer, HoloLens 2 is too far out of the financial reach of most VR porn users. As such, it impresses more as a sign of what’s next to land in the more affordable end of the commercial MR spectrum. Google announced plans for Google Glass 2, a retooled wearable AR/MR device that, at $999, is in much closer reach of your average consumer. Sub-$1000 MR devices trickled out in the wake of the inaugural HoloLens release, and we can surely expect the same to happen now that HoloLens 2 has finally dropped.
