Samsung is leading the way with its revolutionary Gear VR powered by Oculus VR. It
combines the power of the cutting-edge Note 4, with the brains of Oculus VR. The result is the best publicly available VR headset in existence. It has exceeded sales expectations.
LG, the other giant Korean electronics company, doesn’t want to be left behind so they’re releasing their own VR headset. It will be a holder for their G3 smartphone that runs on Google Cardboard. And while Gear VR costs $200, the LG will be free with all G3 purchases.
On the plus side, LG is smart to move in to VR. It’s inevitable that all technology companies will to make this move if they don’t want to become dinosaurs.
However, it’s possible this may poison the VR well since the state of Google Cardboard VR is still pretty poor. It is likely to make consumers uncomfortable and they may think that all VR is bad. But the truth is that there is a world of difference between the excellent Gear VR technology and Google Cardboard. Hopefully it will give people a taste of VR and lead them to want something better.
