Attend any professional (or even ambitious amateur) basketball or football game, and you’re sure to notice the amount of downtime that goes to waste. You’re blasted with booming music, surrounded by giants screens blaring advertisements, and even when the games starts up again, you’re usually too far from the action to make the sensory barrage seem worth it. With recent implementations of Augmented Reality (AR) tech to enhance and support live entertainment experiences, we could soon be attending live events anywhere on Earth that barely resemble those we attend today. And, as is often the case, sports, entertainment, and pornography aid each other’s evolution in live AR. (Only porn is a bit less boastful.)
Coachella, California’s largest annual music festival, in 2019, introduced its first AR-equipped stage. Using a free Coachella Camera app for iOS and Android, fans were able to watch an AR display of cosmic proportions as space shuttles, comets, planets, asteroids, and other orbiting bodies moved above and around them, reacting to both the live music and the crowd itself.
From Live Songs to Live Sex
When it comes to more adult-oriented forms of entertainment, the implications of this kind of AR-equipped live experience is easy to see. Why deal with the awkwardness of actually attending a sex expo, a live sex club, a dogging meet-up, or (gulp) an orgy when you can distance yourself from all the usual trappings? Indulging your desire to see live erotic performances used to drag you out of the house and drain your wallet. The idea that soon adult studios will be hosting live events in realistic AR, an event that places you (virtually) in the same physical space as the rampantly horny performers, is a fundamental shift in entertainment, adult or otherwise. It’s also a significant change in the accessibility of sex.
Live sex shows – the kind usually reserved for 2D broadcast by Brazzers or hidden away in a dark, dingy sex club – can now be placed in your living space, customized to fill but not overcrowd your rooms. A-list porn talents will appear to stain your upholstery but, with no actual human bodily fluids present, you not only get to host a lavish sex party but won’t spend a fortune on cleaning – a few tissues should do it! Avoidance of biological and environmental elements brings increased safety, security, and comfort – key ingredients to satisfying sex, especially in a time of global concerns over rampant viral transmission.
Wash Your Hands & Wait For Bliss
With the city of Austin, Texas canceling this year’s SXSW Conference & Festival, and with the aforementioned Coachella being postponed until October due to concern about the spread of Human Coronavirus COVID-19, perhaps the only remnants of the planned events will be a live AR broadcast of some kind. Filmmaker Mark Duplass has already suggested SXSW’s film program be brought online for streamed viewing. Whether any live performances will be rendered in AR for non-attending ticket holders remains to be seen.
The confluence of AR’s increased presence at festivals and conferences, the outbreak of a global pandemic, the mainstreaming of all kinds of virtual entertainment, and the increasing popularity of adult stars with just about any warm-blooded, well-connected user is leading us towards live AR-equipped porn as we’ve only imagined. A far cry from current AR phone apps and their far-from-photorealistic scenes, AR porn in 2020 and beyond, is going to be very exciting indeed.

So many exciting prospects with AR.
