Yesterday was finally the day, everyone had been waiting to hear the most celebrated announcement of the year, “the next generation iPhone”. The event took place at the “Steve Jobs Theatre” in the new Apple Campus and started with the voice and noble words of the finest ever business orator, Steve Jobs. Following this, soon Apple boss Tim Cook took the charge of the show and what followed later was something we all had been waiting for.
This year, Apple announced three different iPhone models – iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. Undoubtedly, the iPhone X is to mark a tribute to Apple’s ten successful and glorious years in the smartphone industry. And it is needless to say that iPhone X is the premium most handset from the pack.
While unveiling the iPhone X, Tim Cook was quick to mention it as “The greatest leap forward since the original iPhone”. Tim Cook mentioned that just as the first iPhone was the torchbearer for a decade of smartphone revolution in the tech industry, the iPhone X is here to set forward another coming revolution, and by which he obviously meant “Augmented Reality”.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone Plus are basically successors to the previous 7 series iPhones with a few upgrades in terms of its more enhanced processing abilities brought to the table by Apple’s new A11 Bionic chip. This new chip is responsible for more powerful and enhanced image processing abilities in terms of framing and lighting, and more importantly offers support for augmented reality which users can experience through several applications. Another major update over the previous series iPhone is the introduction to plug-free wireless charging capabilities of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

The iPhone X is the major game-changer here and comes with a stunning edge-to-edge display baked with the much talked about OLED technology. The iPhone X display hosts a 2436 x 1125 pixels resolution with a support for Dolby Vision and HDR. This means that users will also have the most immersive experience of watching VR porn videos on the iPhone compatible mobile VR Headsets. What this means for virtual reality porn and sex simulation as a whole is yet to be determined but it’s certainly a step in the right direction.
The front notch at the top of the iPhone X hosts an array of sensors, one of them being a depth sensor (dot-projector) which brings the Face ID system into action. The Face ID gives users the ability to unlock their iPhone X with their face itself, which looks like an excellent way of bidding farewell to the home-button fingerprint sensor.
While integrating the phone powerful processing and machine-learning computing abilities, Apple has made sure that your security remains un-compromised with the new Face ID. The great thing is that the FaceID also helps to improve the accuracy for augmented-reality face-tracking.
Apple Is Betting Big on AR
Even before the launch of this year’s iPhones, Tim Cook had expressed his views about how augmented reality is set to bring a major revolution in the technology industry. The ability of AR to overlay digital images on your physical surroundings is projected to have a wide array of applications in the near future.
During yesterday’s announcement, Tim Cook said: “Apple has always believed that technology infused with humanity could improve people’s lives and change the world.” A demo of the multiplayer augmented reality game “The Machines” was also shown running on the iPhone 8. With a major push to cater to AR applications, Apple is marketing its new iPhone line as being custom designed for “the ultimate augmented reality experience.” Apple has already announced its ARKit earlier this year at the WWDC which will be available as an integrated part of iOS 11, due to launch on September 19th. This is expected to give Apple a big boost and presumably a huge stepping stone in the competitive market of augmented reality.
Though many might argue that Apple is quite late in the terms of its peers, which might give the Cupertino-based giant a leading edge is the fact that with the iOS 11 rollout, Apple’s ARKit will be available to millions of existing and new iPhone users at one single point of time. This is certainly expected to be Apple’s major push in AR. For now, it seems that Apple has nicely planned out its further course of action and how it going to manage the game ahead.
