Just recently, in my series “How to Make Your OWN VR Porn,” I discussed and reviewed the capabilities of the Samsung Gear 360. I found that it was one of the easiest and most complete setups for making your own virtual reality porn. Pairing the Gear 360 with a Gear VR and a Samsung S6 or S7 Smartphone, you will potentially have everything you need to make a POV porn. That said, I mentioned that image quality severely limited the potential of such a setup.
It looks like Samsung is back with a new Gear 360 which may provide much greater visual quality than the previous Gear 360. Beyond a visual quality upgrade, an FCC filing indicates that the new Gear 360 will have some new tricks up its sleeve. So here I discuss what is new about the next Gear 360 while asking will it be the go-to VR porn cam for consumers?
Round Shape (Old versus New)
If we look at the old Gear 360 in comparison to the new one, we can see that for the most part, the design hasn’t changed. In the FCC filing below, you can see many similarities in shape and design. As in the older model (pictured above), the newer model is still shaped like a weird cyborg eye. For the most part, consumers liked this spherical shape. I did have a number of friends that lost their Gear 360 while shooting on hillsides. Dropping that little sucker on the hilly streets of San Fran, forced many of my friends to resort to using their now blind Samsung eyeborgs as dog toys.
Lens (Old Versus New)
The new Gear 360 pictured in the FCC filing appears to share its predecessor’s lens setup. This means it will have two fisheye lens for capturing 360 videos. The 180 images captured by these lenses are stitched together by the Gear 360’s fairly powerful on-board CPU. As image quality was one of the main concerns about the last Gear 360, I think we may be due for an upgrade here. Samsung could be putting two 4k cameras in the new Gear 360. As media encoders and CPU speed have increased, a fast enough onboard processor (like a Snapdragon 835) potentially could hand two 4k streams.
The FCC filing reveals that there are few brand new elements of the Gear 360. Keep in mind: this is all speculation. As can be seen clearly in the picture below, the Gear 360 appears to lose its predecessor’s tripod while replacing it with a cylindrical or conical base. This is probably used by the required extra battery that will feed the sharper cameras, the faster more demanding CPU, and the new antenna.
Yes, it looks like Samsung is including an antenna with this new Gear 360. This means the camera will be able to receive and emit cellular signals. With this in mind, it is easy to see where Samsung is going with this new model. The Gear 360 will be a streaming 360 device that can be used anywhere even without a cell phone.
To VR Porn Gear 360 or Not?
In sum, we are getting a cellular streaming sharper 360 Gear VR camera. This will be awesome for streaming live shows directly to VR headsets. As for its benefits to VR porn? Well, the added dual 4k cameras will help the most here. Potentially, the footage shot on the new Gear 360 will be sharp enough to adequate film details like public hair. To conclude, I can’t wait for this new little buggar to drop! It should be announced at Samsung’s Unpacked event occurring in London in two weeks.

If it’s true that this new gear 360 can stream 360 videos without a cell phone, then that’s a great thing yeah?
