Not to be outdone by the recent popular Oculus Rift preorder, death metal icons Megadeth have their own VR goggles preorder deal.

Megadeth is releasing their new album, Dystopia, and if you preorder, you will get a special limited edition set which includes custom Megadeth VR Goggles. It includes everything you need — lenses, magnets, frame. It transforms your Android or Iphone smart phone in to a functioning VR system.

The VR experience was produced by Next Galaxy. Next Galaxy is a company with ambitious plans for the VR revolution, you’ll be hearing of them more and more often.

It’s great that a popular band such as Megadeth is getting in to the virtual reality revolution. And sending out cooly designed VR goggle frames to their legions of fans is awesome. But we should just note that 360 videos aren’t exactly VR. VR would imply 3D and the ability to move around the scene to some extent. Of course true VR would be fully immersive with all senses activated such as in Star Trek’s Holodeck. But at this early stage in the VR revolution we don’t need to get too technical.
