Having already crossed into augmented or mixed reality with Meta Quest 3 and its full-color passthrough and now facing stiff competition from Apple Vision Pro, Meta appears to be preparing a dedicated AR device. Reportedly dubbed “Orion,” the pair of AR glasses may appear at the company’s annual Meta Connect event later this year.
As reported by Business Insider, the October event could offer the first glimpse of the long-awaited device. After information came to light concerning a project dubbed “Nazare,” many followers of the VR/AR industry believed Meta would unveil a pair of AR glasses before 2025. Whether or not Orion and Nazare are actually one and the same remains to be seen, but it is fairly safe to assume Nazare’s technology will be part of what drives Orion. Another previously known AR project, “Aria” will also be a likely contributor to the tech behind Meta’s debut AR glasses product.A Vision of the Future
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has pressured Meta Reality Labs to bring the long-gestating AR glasses to a demonstrable state. Orion should deliver a notable technological advance from previous Meta products and could be in the hands of consumers as early as 2026, some pundits are claiming. While that timeline may not produce as early a delivery as many hoped, Meta’s first AR glasses product is one it definitely will want to make as compelling a potential purchase as possible. As AR porn becomes not only more commonplace but more advanced and immersive, devices like Orion will be crucial to its adoption by porn fans everywhere.
