After announcing its plan of bringing mixed reality headsets in collaboration with several top tech industry players, it seems Microsoft is slowly preparing itself for the final showdown. After recently releasing its new motion controllers along with the Acer and HP Mixed Reality headsets, the computing giant detailed three more mixed reality headsets from Asus, Dell, and Lenovo, at the ongoing Computex 2017 event.
All the three mixed reality headsets sport a minimalistic design and are aimed towards having a light weight solution.
Asus Mixed Reality Headset
The Asus MR headset is said to be the most unique of the three in the sense that it comes with a 3D polygonal cover panel, having an adjustable strap for an easy one-hand setup. This futuristic HMD design is aimed at making it “fast, powerful, and ultra-light.” The Asus MR headset is expected to have some special features like six degrees of freedom for immersive positional tracking implemented using the recently launched motion controllers.
Dell Mixed Reality Headset
The Dell mixed reality headset aims at triggering the affordable consumer segment and sports a stylish look which is designed by the same team behind the Alienware PCs and premium XPS. Some of the unique features of the Dell MR headset include cable routing to make the user free of dangling wires, comfortable cushions, a flip-up visor for easy switching between the real and virtual world and a weight balanced headband. As per the word from Microsoft, the Dell MR headset will be available later this year during the holiday season.
Lenovo Mixed Reality Headset
The third one which Microsoft talked about at the Computex 2017 event was the Lenovo MR Headset which was already spotted at the CES 2017 Expo in January. Microsoft describes Lenovo MR headset as “incredibly affordable” and will give a “truly immersive, beyond-the-screen mixed reality experiences.” The Lenovo MR headset has a similar flip-up design and will come with features like inside-out positional tracking without the need for any external sensors.
The Lenovo MR headset will arrive later this year with a suspected pricing between $300-$400.
