Samsung has managed to gain an early dominance and strong foothold in the world of virtual reality. Its Gear VR mobile headset has turned out to be the preferred choice in the consumer world. This is primarily due to Samsung’s collaboration with Oculus which helps the company bring quality VR content to its users. |There’s also the affordability factor of Gear VR that pulls new adopters into VR Tech.
However, it seems that after a three-year association with Oculus, Samsung wants to expand its footprint onto other platforms too. Latest reports from the industry show that Samsung might consider Microsoft as its new partner, and soon announce its own Windows 10 Mixed Reality Headset.
Samsung’s Alleged Windows 10 Mixed Reality Headset
Now, this really comes as a surprise since previously there was no mention of Samsung on Microsoft’s long list of Windows 10 MR Headset manufacturers. Now a recent leak by a Twitter handle with the name “WalkingCat” shows images of a VR Headset alleged to be made by Samsung that displays the Windows Mixed Reality Headset branding.
The images show the Samsung MR Headset in all-black featuring two front-facing sensors for inside-out positional tracking. This is a feature which is common to almost all of the Windows Mixed Reality Headsets. The overall design and head-ring are quite similar to that of PSVR and the back of the headband shows a Samsung logo.
However, unlike other Windows MR Headsets that offer an AUX-in support for external headphones, the Samsung headset is shown to have built-in AKG headphones. One of the leaked images also shows the ring-shaped Microsoft VR Controllers, which leads us to believe that Samsung too might come up with a bundle offer similar to Dell.
Samsung windows 10 Odyssey Headset to Have OLED Display
As per the latest reports in the market, Samsung’s Windows 10 Odyssey Headset will be having OLED Display panels. It is also alleged to have the highest image resolution of 2880 x 1600 pixel compared to other Windows 10 VR Headsets that will be having a resolution of 2880 x 1440. This certainly means high-end immersive viewing experience of your favourite VR Porn videos and better immersive-graphic detailing while playing adult VR games.
We certainly hope that the OLED display panels will add more depth to the immersive viewing experience. Microsoft is having its Windows Mixed Reality event on Octover 3rd and we will possibly hear some official word in this regard. If true, this association between the two giants of the tech industry will certainly unleash more potential developments in the VR world.
