Millions of ice hockey fans and amateur players dream of being part of the winning Stanley Cup team. Though they share this fantasy for many different reasons, the ecstasy of holding the actual Stanley Cup in their hands is undoubtedly a common one. Holding any trophy aloft after victory is a joyous human experience, but when you’re as devoted to a sport as so many hockey fans, the Stanley Cup beats any other trophy in existence.
To celebrate this year’s final and the 129th birthday of the trophy, officially called the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, the NHL is allowing fans access to the vaunted icon… in augmented reality. Any fan with a computer, tablet, or smartphone can enjoy The Stanley Cup Experience a taste of what it might be like to be on the league’s championship team. While you won’t be able to fill the bowl with beer, you can pose with the Cup, hold it aloft as is tradition, or place it in a real-world environment, then simply sit back and admire its majesty. Then, of course, you can share your happy snaps on social media for all to see (and envy).
Pose with a Pornstar
Being a curved item made of reflective material, the Cup was a challenge to bring into AR. The NHL’s success points to the increasingly impressive nature of AR artifacts and suggests that one day soon, you won’t need to attend an LA or LV porn convention in order to pose awkwardly next to your favorite adult performer.
