Oculus Rift owners received some exciting news today. In preparation for the launch of Oculus Touch, Oculus VR announced the immediate launch of the long awaited Asynchronous Spacewarp software, which opens up a new minimum hardware spec for PC VR and a new Oculus Avatars SDK. Oculus VR also announced anew experience called “Oculus First Contact,” which ships with Touch on December 6.
Asynchronous Spacewarp
Asynchronous Spacewarp (ASW) is a new technology that aims to reduce system hardware requirements for Oculus Rift while maintaining content quality. Specifically, ASW implements a technique that smooths the frame-rate and at almost half the CPU/GPU time traditionally required. In laments terms, ASW generates extrapolated frames from previous frames generated by a VR applications or game.
For those of you who are familiar with the Rifts Asynchronous Timewarp (ATW) feature, ASW builds on top of ATW, which extrapolates the user’s head rotation.
Most notable, ASW lowers the minimum specs for PC VR to a NVIDIA GTX 960 GPU instead of a NVIDIA GTX 970.
It should also be mentioned that ASW has been available as part of the most recent Rift SDK, but required making changes in a PC’s BIOS, which is something that most PC owners avoid doing if they are not to experienced with making changes in BIOS.
What This Means for VR Porn and Adult VR Games
I am in the process of testing if there is a noticeable in Adult VR games including Stickied: Waifu Sex Simulator VR 1.8. I will try to provide an detailed blog post of Waifu Sex Simulator in the next few days.
Oculus Avatars SDK
In addition to the Touch launch on December 6, Oculus is launching the Oculus Avatars SDK, which will allow users to create an avatar that can be customized with a wide assortment of faces, hairstyles, eye wear, clothing, and texture effects.
Existing titles, including Sports Bar VR and Kingspray, will feature full support for Oculus Avatars and Touch.
Oculus First Contact
The last item announced by Oculus today was Oculus First Contact. This playful 80’s sci-fi throwback is a new experience to help Rift users become acclimated with their Touch controllers. The experience will feature a robot that shows users how to interact with the virtual world. Oculus First contact will also ship and launch with the Touch controllers.
That is all for the time being, check into vrporn.com periodically for up-to-date content.

Does ASW work with everything run on the rift like WSS? Or only for stuff made in software like Unity?
