Peridot may initially seem like an AR adaptation of the ’90s digital pocket pet Tamagotchi, but it promises to be so much more than that. Players birth a “Dot,” a kind of AR pet with endless physical variants – sleek and scaly, fuzzy and psychedelically colored, horned and bovine – that they must then keep happy with play, food, and adventure. Using hand crafted assets and procedural generation, each Dot is unique. They can also recognize real world terrain and surfaces like water, sand, dirt, grass, and concrete. Dots seek adventure and will prompt their “Keeper” to take them out to certain locations, develop skills, and, of course, have fun.
