In the past, I have written that I believe that the Galaxy S8 and Gear VR are the best combination of hardware for VR porn viewing. This was because the Gear VR provides a super sharp display, awesome graphics, and great software compatibility. Things are changing because a variety of stand-alone headsets are becoming available. Just yesterday, another super affordable option called the Pico Goblin headset was unveiled. Running $249, this headset will be a great option for virtual reality porn users that want a low-cost standalone headset.
The new start-up company Pico showed off its new headset this week which it hopes to start shipping in the next two months. Pico’s headset will go for a reasonable $249 dollars at launch with a special $25 dollar discount if you order now. This headset has a nice set of specs that make it competitive with many of the other VR offerings including the Gear VR and S8 combo that I mentioned before.
Display
It has a 5.5 inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. This is a great resolution that will make the dreaded screen door effect less noticeable than other lower resolution headsets. Of course, the 2560 x 1440 pixels will be divided between two eyes. When dividing the total resolution by 2, a per eye resolution of 1280 X 720 will be displayed. This is less than the super high pixel dense displays found in Gear VR headsets but still good. The pixel density will be closer to that of the PlayStation VR which has a pixel density of 1080 x 1080 per eye.
Pico also says that the display on the headset is a super fast display. They clock the display at a rate of 70hz which is better than the 60hz standard that most low-end virtual reality headsets seem to be matching these days. This high refresh rate will keep virtual reality nausea down while allowing videos to match the 60 FPS standard that most high-quality virtual reality porn tops out at.
The display also has a 92-degree field of view. This is far less than the 110-degree field of view that the HTC Vive gets. 92-degrees is pretty competitive when you consider that the Gear VR tops out at 90 degrees. Most Google Cardboard headsets have even less (sometimes around 80 or lower). All in all, the Pico Goblin has a pretty nice display that gets the job done while matching its closest competitors.
Tracking
The Pico Goblin also has 3 degrees of freedom motion tracking. Although 6 degrees of freedom is all the rage nowadays, this won’t make much of a difference if you are using the headset for VR porn videos. The Gear VR also has 3 degrees of freedom tracking and most users don’t complain about missing the other 3 degrees.
CPU
The Pico Goblin has a pretty competent CPU/GPU combo as well. It uses the Snapdragon 820 chip which is similar to the powerful Snapdragon 821 found in the Google Pixel. The Galaxy S7 also used this chip. Although not the latest and greatest, the Snapdragon 820 is powerful enough to handle any 3d virtual reality games that have been designed for mobile. It will play videos with exceptional fluidity as well.
Pico is also readying a nice software package to go along with its headset. If you want a dedicated headset to store and watch your VR porn stash on, the Pico Goblin is a great choice!

Excited, yet…
Vr player options are a must. Production angles vary quite a bit, so sometimes you want to zoom in/out.
Then there’s the variation on projections, some being 180 others 360, side side, top bottom, curved, flat semi-hemispherical.
There will be a lot of nonoptimal playback, if this isn’t variable in the viewing software 🙁 ;/.

I guess, this is going to be very competitive in this niche because of the price point of $250

Can you play 180 degree sbs 3d movie files off the micro xd card? I read that it will play 360 degree files, but it didn’t specify whether it will also work with 270 and 180 degree ones as well. This is very important for VRP videos.
