With AR coming to Oculus Quest 2 and competing VR hardware outfits aiming to trump Facebook’s best-selling device, many are now looking to Sony to pose the most serious challenge to Oculus’s supremacy. After the initial Playstation VR (PSVR) ‘s roaring success, Sony has been toiling away to create a worthy successor. Now, new leaks from a closed Sony conference are pointing not only to a major upgrade for PSVR users but a bona fide super-device for VR enthusiasts of all stripes.
Hotly anticipated and now rumored to be lined up for a 2022 holiday season release, Sony’s forthcoming follow-up to the PSVR – currently codenamed NGVR (next-gen VR) – is already known to be stacked with exciting features. From advanced controllers with capacitive touch sensors for thumb, index, and middle fingers (announced back in March) to integrated eye tracking, a 110° field-of-view, and Flexible Scaling Resolution (FSR) that “concentrates rendering processes on the [user’s] area of focus,” NGVR is not only shaping up to be a serious gaming device, but also hardware passport to majorly interactive porn.Feedback Received
Tactile interaction, haptic feedback, and more precise, detailed visual capabilities are obvious wins for VR porn fans, many of whom chose PSVR as their virtual vehicle. Sony’s next-gen controllers boast adaptive triggers fitted with resistance to allow more control in a more naturalistic fashion. While you may want to put your controllers down during an intimate VR encounter, the potential for hands-free haptic peripherals here is huge. Fans of adult gaming used to employing controllers during a VR experience should be very excited about what Sony’s new design will bring them.Rumor has it that Sony is moving away from VR “experiences” that allow users to step into another world or another character’s shoes. Instead, it aims to cement its reputation as the VR device of choice for serious gamers. “Console quality” triple-A games, including those with hybrid or variant 2D and VR versions, may become the primary purpose of NGVR, but its powerhouse hardware and expected affordability will no doubt make it an attractive option for adult VR experiences.
Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
After months, if not years, of anticipation and speculation, Sony has officially revealed the design of the follow-up to its enormously successful Playstation VR via the Playstation blog. Sporting a sleek black-and-white design with rounded edges, PS VR2 sports an orb-inspired look that Sony says represents the 360° VR experience. After the success of the original PS VR, it’s no surprise to see Sony improving on but not radically departing from a familiar design scheme.
Carried over from the first PS VR, features including the placement of the headphone jack, the adjustable headband, and adjustable scope are designed to be familiar to PS VR users. Throw in a lens adjustment dial, reduced weight, and an inbuilt motor for physical feedback. Not only has the design of PS VR2 been revealed, the timeline of its arrival has been laid out, with Sony telling consumers to expect its availability in “early 2023.” With Meta’s hotly anticipated and much hyped ‘Project Cambria’ device and potential rival Pico 4 also nearing release, PS VR2 will surely have some competition. If the success of the first PS VR has shown anything, however, it’s that Sony’s commitment to VR is not to be underestimated.
