Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 3 have shown that Meta is far from finished with its Quest line of VR and now AR/MR headsets and devices. As expected, Quest 4 has been floated as the next in the succession and the next phase of Meta’s ambitions in the metaverse, at least as far as hardware is concerned.
In this vein, Meta is reportedly aiming to release two new iterations of Quest in the near future. The Information has detailed what its reporters Wayne Ma and Kalley Huang were told about the forthcoming devices by Meta insiders. The information also revealed a likely release timeline that included not only two Quest 4 devices but also a Quest Pro 2.
Round Four
Meta Quest 4 and Meta Quest 4S, currently being developed under the respective codenames Pismo High and Pismo Low, are now both expected to arrive in 2026. Just what the Quest 4 pair will deliver remains to be seen, of course, but it’s fairly safe to assume Meta will ramp up the merging of VR and AR for increasingly intuitive, immersive, and utilitarian multiversal experiences.
With Meta’s obvious attention to design aesthetics and streamlining its devices, we can also expect a rather attractive pair of headsets. It is also possible that the fourth generation Quests will lean more heavily on the “AR glasses” style of design, form factor, and general functionality.
Quest Pro: Take 2
A second generation Meta Quest Pro is currently under development with the codename La Jolla and is expected to land on shelves in 2027. After the relatively shaky launch of the first generation Quest Pro, and especially in light of Apple Vision Pro’s release and greater media saturation, Meta may have learned a few lessons. While Quest Pro 2 will likely not be as interesting or relevant to VR porn fans as Quest 4 and Quest 4S, it will land at a time when AR/MR will have had a chance to significantly develop, when the tech could be the go-to option for creators of sexual entertainment.
Whatever path a consumer takes in these next generations of VR/AR hardware, it’s clear the future is even more exciting than the recent past.
