Snap’s AR Tools Point to New Adult Thrills

At its 2022 Partner Summit, Snap unveiled a set of 3D assets and tools designed to boost its already strong utilization of augmented reality. Focusing on online retail shopping, AR tools arriving to Snapchat will now offer an in-app destination called “Dress Up” which will allow users to virtually try on clothing and preview other items.

Since first launching in January 2021, more than 250 million Snapchat users have used shopping-related AR lenses. The creation of a new web content management system designed to allow brands and retailers greater access to Snap’s AR toolkit is set to expand this usage to huge new heights. By uploading photographic assets of items they currently sell, retailers can gain a range of 3D assets that, used in conjunction with buyer-end tools, can allow would-be purchasers a chance to, for example, try on a snappy new pair of sunglasses, a cool t-shirt, or some stylish shoes they’ve been salivating over. With Snap expanding this toolkit to encompass furniture and other household products, shoppers will be able to examine a whole range of items before purchase.

Dressing Up, Dressing Down

Snap’s new in-app destination, Dress Up, allows users to browse and virtually try-on items using nothing more than their smartphone. While this will obviously help many avoid wasting money on clothing that will earn them nothing but scorn and ridicule from their social circle, it does pose some intriguing, more adult-minded opportunities. From cosplay fantasy fulfillment to such simple agendas as “Man, I wish I could afford a swag-as-fuck Supreme tee,” this toolkit has plenty to offer AR-equipped adult encounters.
