One of the largest stumbling blocks on the path to widespread adoption of VR content has proven to be the hassle of actually producing the stuff. Specialized cameras can be enormous, performers are often extremely restricted in the freedom to move, and post production demands a whole lot more tech and time than 2D productions.
Even with a well polished finished product, a VR producer can struggle to find an audience simply because the general quality of VR content hasn’t compelled greater adoption of the tech needed to view it.
That said, VR continues to grow in popularity with adult content spearheading the charge as it nears a projected $20 billion industry-wide valuation. There’s another reason to be optimistic, though: AI.
Instant Gratification Granted
NVIDIA recently unveiled Instant NeRF, an AI tool that allows artists and creators to render a 3D scene from static 2D images. Placing this in a porn context, you can see how such a tool would eventually result in what would effectively be double shoots, a production that results in 2D and 3D versions of the same scene while requiring far less cumbersome and expensive gear than current VR shoots.

Not only can Instant NeRF create 3D renders of human beings from 2D source images, it can also render clouds, light paths, fabrics, liquids, and particulate matter. In other words, a NeRFed pornstar won’t just look realistic in 3D but also be able to be doused with realistic semen (when the time comes).
While moving 3D images are not yet being created with Instant NeRF - or, more accurately, 3D renders of complex moving objects, such as human bodies - this innovation does offer a glimpse into and a pathway towards much more fluid creation of VR porn. NVIDIA isn’t the only entity making major leaps forward, of course, and OpenAI also made a very promising recent shift.

ChatGPT is Cumming
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently revealed the company’s plans to open its AI to more adult-oriented content creation. Longstanding reluctance to allow the tool to deal with explicit adult concepts like sexual language, imagery, and material for verified adult users.

Although undoubtedly incentivized by the prospect of would-be porn creators and companion-hungry adults signing up for paid ChatGPT subscriptions (and the data accumulation potential they bring with them), OpenAI has stated that this decision is more about “treat[ing] adult users like adults.”

Pornography has historically helped to propel new technologies into more widespread use. From VCRs to digital video, to lag-free streaming and chatbots, users keen on employing new technology to expand their sexual options and horizons have always had ample opportunities to do so. With a tool as powerful and popular as ChatGPT being opened to explicit adult content creation and erotic conversation and vanguard innovators like NVIDIA consistently opening new doors for graphic creation, the future of AI porn is looking to become an extremely fertile field for erotic potential.
