The Ethics of VR Porn #4: Morality and the Law

Until very recently, I was convinced that VR porn studios will smartly keep their releases within the moral and legal boundaries of sexual intercourse. However, after having reviewed VirtualRealPorn’s “Daddy Issues“, which presents a narrative in which your adoptive daughter become subjected to your sexual wilderness, I have started to put more critical thought into the direction our beloved industry is heading into. The industry is walking on thin ice right now, and the continuous search for the sensational taboo should be kept within clear boundaries.

The most common theme that you can find in all of porn nowadays involves incestuous sex. It’s hard to explain just why consumers are so fascinated with family taboos, but we can’t blame the studios for supplying to the increasing demand. What we should do, though, is prevent future unpleasant situations that can threaten the industry in costly lawsuits that may potentially cause dismemberments and shutdowns.

According to many classifications and definitions, you can call an incest every type of sexual intercourse that cannot be turned into a marriage by legal terms, as the two individuals involved are already related. Therefore, there are two different instances in which the sex is considered incestuous: the consanguineous bang, and the affinity intercourse. That’s why the next section will be dedicated to explaining just what these mean and how they can be avoided.

The two shades of incest: consanguineous and affinity sex

It goes without saying that both of them are immoral and can be punished by law even within legal frameworks of more liberal states (for example, the states of Arkansas, Ohio, New Jersey, and Rhode Island prohibit any type of incest and punish it harshly).

But in order to carry on with examples, it’s important to define the two terms. If you know a little bit of Latin, then you can understand that the consanguineous type refers to the relation by blood: it means that you’re born in the same family, have a similar background, and share genetic characteristics. Traditionally, this type of intercourse is forbidden due to the dangers of procreation: newborns are very likely to suffer from various illnesses and disabilities. Banning it is a great way of making sure that the population remains healthy and reproduces in the spirit of diversity.

Luckily, virtual reality porn has no record of consanguineous relations, at least not boy-girl hardcore scenes. There are, however, the Dellai Twins (Eveline and Silvia) who kiss and touch each other in a sexual way on camera, but certain limits have always been kept for the sake of not making the scenes disgusting or obliging the performers to surpass the limits of their personal values.

You don’t have to look very far to identify films that involve stepmother-stepdaughter-stepson love triangles. Some of them are a little more innocent and involve intercourse with the girlfriend, that her mother discovers and disrupts by joining. The more perverted ones feature stepsisters who interfere while you’re masturbating and fuck the brains out of you, horny stepmothers, and lust between step-siblings of opposite sex.

As previously stated, there is also the example of sex with the adopted daughter: a narrative that can potentially become dangerous if irrational people take it too seriously. It’s all fun and games on the filming set, and it can be liberating to break the rules and the taboos in stories. However, studios should think further ahead in order to avoid the many lawsuits that they can be subjected to.

For example, if some deranged individual decides to enact the events he saw through the VR headset and talks his or her step-sibling or adopted (adult) child into having sex with them, the situation can get very nasty if charges are pressed at the police. The same person can testify in court and mention how his or her perception of reality has been blurred by virtual reality and put the blame on the pornography he or she has been watching.

This happened to video games (Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat, and Carmageddon have all been subjects of intense and heated debates), music (Black Sabbath and other metal bands have been accused of being responsible for various suicidal or illegal acts), and even television and cinema (there was a case where somebody murdered their brother just like in the TV show “Dexter”, and a lot of controversies was spread).

Sure, controversy can be good for the short and medium term, but the survival of the industry and of the genre is much more important than having your 15 minutes of fame at the 5 PM news

Awareness and responsibility are two of the words that come to mind when I think about what VR porn consumers should display and reflect in relation to others. Actions, situations, and contexts should not be emulated if the content is illegal, immoral, and broadly scandalous in your community.

Sure, some sex laws are really dumb and go as far as prohibiting several sexual positions (as if Big Brother is watching or they expect partners to turn each other into the police). But right now, we’re talking about degrees of incest and how the idea has been spread massively in newer releases.

It’s always great that adult entertainment breaks boundaries, defies the norms and attempts to promote sexual liberation. But in this whole process, a series of moral and utilitarian questions should be asked. For instance, one of these questions should be “does the society at large benefit from this liberation?” Another one is “even if the law was to be changed in favor of incest, would it be good for people to engage in this type of intercourse?”

We can’t deny the fact that porn is very influential and can radically change the behavior of individuals while they’re having their most intimate moments with a partner. Whether we talk about increased demands (like prolonged oral sex or lengthier humping), greater expectations (when you watch so much beauty, you will definitely start looking for it in real life), or expansion of fantasies (some sexual positions aren’t natural or intuitive at all, but porn has the power to introduce them and make them popular), we can’t deny just how influential adult entertainment is.

If VR porn promotes incest for the sake of increasing sales among people who want to explore taboo narratives, then the path is mostly wrong. There are so many other fields to be explored, and none of them are as immoral or illegal

Studios should be more creative in their writing and directing departments, just to create more sexually arousing content that responds to genuine mass turn-ons without flicking the immoral or illegal switch. And there are already examples of seduction scenes, dominance moments, and even weird coincidences that lead to unbelievable sex.

Pornography usually depicts and glorifies the science of the unlikely: you find sexual pleasure in the most mundane and boring activities in your life, whether we talk about sex in the office or scoring the pizza delivery boy or taxi driver. We’re all turned on by such improbable situations where the banal turns into a glorious memory. But it’s dangerous to informally educate the public in a way that can cause exclusion from family circles, costly lawsuits, and a bad reputation for the genre.

There are always plenty of ways of remaining creative and sexually arousing. That boring business trip can get turned into an unexpected orgy, the casual talk with the waitress can lead to intensely passionate sex, and the consultation with your accountant or lawyer can result in surprising outcomes. These are all excellent examples of situations where you’re not breaking any laws, you aren’t infringing anybody’s rights, and you’re within the boundaries of morality.

Society won’t condemn you for screwing the hot secretary, but will definitely label and marginalize you for even thinking about your relatives or adopted children who are now grown adults. Let’s keep VR porn clean, safe, and away from unwanted media and legal scandals.

The ethical argument is very simple to understand and follow. It’s rooted in the idea that pornography does influence the perceptions and sexual behavior of its consumers, and its virtual reality branch can potentially change real sex in a more radical way. And since plenty of unwanted situations can happen, it’s a lot safer to keep it clean and get rid of dubious incestuous situations.

It’s really good that consanguineous sex is out of the question, but its affinity derivation (involving people who became your relatives through your blood relatives’ marriage or adoption) can stir scandals and take the blame for people’s reckless behavior. Just like that deranged kid who murdered his fellow classmates and teachers at Columbine High School was thought to have been influenced by violent video games, future sex criminals will take full advantage of VR to reduce their penalties and pass the guilt on someone else’s sorry.

As always, it’s a lot better to be safe than sorry, and incestuous relationships should be discouraged. That’s why, from this moment onwards, my reviews of stepmom-stepson, stepsister-stepbrother, adopted daughter-adoptive father, adopted son-adoptive mother will automatically lose 2 points from their final grade. It’s a drastic decision that’s meant to highlight that shortcuts are not the ethical way of winning support. There are plenty of taboos that people have and aren’t illegal and as immoral – how about we use those?
