Fluid control of full-body avatars in Virtual Reality has long been the grand teleconferencing dream. Not content with video calls and instant messaging, most of us long to stand next to someone on the other side of the world, of using VR tech to both conquer physical distance and express genuine human emotion. HTC’s newly launched Vive Trackers are one more step towards making that a reality. But they’re also so much more.
Vive Tracker 3.0, which like its predecessor, can be attached to hip, wrist, or foot, or to a range of accessories from laser guns to sporting gear, brings objects and body parts into virtual space as moveable, usable items. Smaller than Tracker 2.0 by 15% and promising seven hours of use off a single charge, Tracker 3.0 serves a 240° FOV and is compatible with SteamVR 1.0 and 2.0. While this updated tracker has obvious applications in virtual sex and porn – and is likely aiding VR porn development already – it is the other tracker recently announced by HTC that should have porn fans salivating.
A Facial of Your Own
Accurately and instantly translating a user’s very real facial expressions to their VR avatar has been a feature VR enthusiasts have looked forward to for decades. The Vive Facial Tracker aims to bring that concept closer to reality, maybe even bring it into everyday use. Mounting to the headset’s bottom, the Facial Tracker reads lip and mouth movements with precision capturing emotions, reactions, and even intentions in real-time. A clear VR game changer should it take hold with the common user, Vive’s Facial Tracker could very well lead us to infinitely customizable adult interactions that believably respond to your words, actions, and intentions.
Perhaps even more tantalizing, though, is how the Facial Tracker could revolutionize adult VR roleplay and gaming. An adults-only MMORP that brings heightened realism to every face-to-face interaction, and therefore to what follows, sounds like bliss to many devoted VR gamers. Though HTC’s next-gen VR headset is expected to land later this year and will likely utilize inside-out tracking instead of peripheral tracking devices, the Facial Tracker remains especially exciting for any VR fanatic with a firm interest in the adult.
