Viral: New Gear VR Game
Viral was just released in the Oculus Store for the Gear VR. It’s $4.99 well spent.
The demo was one of the first games available with the launch of the Gear VR. And that’s a notable accomplishment in itself for the developers Fierce Kaiju.
I got to try the short demo a while ago and was pleasantly surprised with the game. But now the full game is available and ready to go!
I Made a Video
I thought it’d be fun to show you some game play. I play all the way through the first boss.
General Description
In total, there are some 50 levels. The basic story is that you are out to take out viruses infesting a super computer. Hence, the title “Viral“.
The game play seems simple, but the experience is a lot of fun. That’s the best kind of game design.
The central mechanic is “gaze shooting”. What this means is you look somewhere and shoot where you’re looking. This is a unique game play mechanic made possible by the Gear VR head tracking.
Cool Touches
The environment definitely adds to the experience. You find yourself flying through a series of futuristic rooms as you take out the viruses.

Virus Dude Taunting
There are various puzzles and bosses thrown in so the game doesn’t get stale.
And to lighten the mood, the viruses make humorous taunting gestures.
Fierce Kaiju
It’s made by UK developers Fierce Kaiju. Viral is not their first game. They have experience working on other stuff, including big names like: Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and Call of Duty.
Here’s the video, enjoy!
