Virtual reality headset and virtual reality porn industries are beginning to take off. VR adult websites are starting to get massive traffic whereas the technology industry is pumping millions of dollars into different VR technologies to produce better headsets and VR software. Because VR has not solidified yet, there are plenty of openings and business opportunities. If you are an entrepreneurial individual with ideas, guts, and determination, you could make a living either producing or providing content for virtual reality headsets. Today, I will discuss a new software tool by Viro Media that will help you get your VR start!
Getting Started
Whether you want to start your own VR porn production company, a VR game company, or even a VR retail sales company, getting started is the hardest part. In past articles, I have detailed some of the advanced software platforms that are commonly used for virtual reality applications. While drawing comparisons to other VR platforms, I will be discussing Viro Media’s new virtual reality platform that appears to be super easy for beginners just getting into virtual reality app design.
How Easy?
Using an easy-to-read development guide, Viro says that it may take just 10 minutes to get started on a full-fledged VR experience. For developers that sign up, Viro provides a large variety of development tools and the React framework alongside their own rendering engine. Viro’s platform is compatible with the most portable VR headsets. This includes Google Daydream, Google Cardboard, and the Gear VR. It remains to be seen when Viro will support the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive.
Compared to Unreal or Unity
In contrast to the Unreal Engine or Unity, Viro’s platform aims to make it as easy as possible for fledgling businesses to produce their own virtual reality apps. CEO Danny Moon says, “We are launching publicly to gain mindshare and make companies aware that there is a great new tool out there for them to build VR experiences.” Because virtual reality porn currently mainly uses video as a medium, only a simple platform that moves virtual reality content to users is necessary. Viro could be very beneficial to burgeoning virtual reality adult entertainment producers that are just getting their start.
Missing a few things…
Because Viro is focusing on making a simple easy-to-use platform for VR apps, many of the bells and whistles of the Unreal Engine and Unity will be missing. This means you probably won’t be able to make a full-on room scale virtual reality sex simulators with the Viro platform. Explaining why Viro is limiting their VR platform, Danny Moon says:
We don’t yet support the photo-realistic lighting and high-end physics you might find in some game engines, however, we do make it vastly simpler to build a wide variety of VR applications, from interactive photo experiences to full-fledged navigable scenes with 3D assets and lighting. The platform is meant to encourage a wide variety of experiences, and we’ll continue to add features, but one priority of ours will always be to make building simple things simple while enabling complexity where it’s needed.
Perhaps complex VR development features will come in the future. As of now, the Viro platform can produce a variety of VR and VR 360 applications. Viro has produced a series of demo apps to demonstrate the types apps that are possible to develop with their platform. The demo applications include:
- Real Estate—Interactive home tours with 360 and panoramic photos
- Travel—Immersive photos and videos that transport users to new destinations
- Entertainment—Custom theaters or virtual environments for users to consume media
- Education—Engaging and interactive lessons to tackle even the toughest concepts
- News and Storytelling—Showcase stories with mixed media on a virtual canvas
- Retail and e-Commerce—Let customers interact with products in 3D before purchase

From these, the “Entertainment” category appears to be most in line with VR adult apps. Using their guidelines and development examples with your own content, you could probably make your own VR adult app in as little time as a weekend or two. It is not too late to make it big in VR!

so viro is easy, but is much limited? how can you “make it big” in VR with that?

still i guess this would be beyond my capabilities to build an app 🙁
