Virtual Reality Technology is today seen occupying a spot in almost every field like entertainment, education, medical sciences, industrial applications, and a lot more. While major global tech companies like Google, Samsung, Oculus, and HTC have already achieved a formidable grip in VR tech development, there is one giant, Apple Inc, who has been very shy while coming forward and participating with its own VR tech innovations and developments.
Moreover, Apple has also lacked behind in providing its PCs with the right compatible hardware that can deliver enough computational prowess to have a seamless and immersive VR experience. So just when all the Apple fans are looking forward and waiting with a ray of hope, Apple’s latest word on upcoming Mac Pro update is enough to draw our attention.
Apple Updates its Mac Pro Machine
After a long wait since 2013, Apple is now finally updating its Mac Pro PC units which will come with more powerful hardware solution capable enough to run tethered VR headsets like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, which still dominate a large section of the VR industry.
The company has admitted that the existing Mac Pro and MacBook hardware is short of the needs of its customers with VR being one of the major reason. Phill Schiller, Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing said, “We are in the process of what we call ‘completely rethinking’ the Mac Pro. We’re working on it. We have a team working hard on it right now, and we want to architect it so that we can keep it fresh with regular improvements, and we’re committed to making it our highest-end, high-throughput desktop system, designed for our demanding pro customers.”
The new Mac Pro units are said to have more powerful CPUs and GPUs which are capable enough to handle some GPU intensive tasks along with heavy “scientific loads”, says Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi. While giving a hint about the requirements of VR technology, he further adds, “There are heavy 3D graphics [applications] or graphics and compute mixed loads, those can be in VR, those can be in certain kinds of high-end cinema production tasks where most of the software out there that’s been written to target those doesn’t know how to balance itself well across multiple GPUs but can scale across a single large GPU.”
This smallest indication is quite enough to give us the understanding about Apple’s future plans involving VR and so a VR-ready Mac Pro could be pretty much on the cards. However, we will patiently need to wait till 2018 for the entry of this updated Mac Pro units in the market.

Finally, Apple wakes up…. But again if 2018 and later is the arrival plan for the updated Mac Pro, i doubt how much it will be appreciated for VR as most industry players are shifting towards wireless standalone headsets

but I think this is not heavily influenced because of VR tech, I used my friends mac pro and I can tell its still one of the fastest destop pc to own. I guess they are updating because it has been a long time since they overhauled the pro line.
