As VR technology evolves, hardware manufacturers and developers are trying out innovative new ways to bring more intuitive and immersive experiences. Recently, VRgineers partnered with Leap-Motion to announce the development of a new, enterprise-grade VR headset that comes with baked-in hand-tracking features.
VRgineers has been working in the VR space for quite some time now developing professional headsets. At the same time, Leap-Motion has been working on their revolutionary hand-tracking technology. Their coming together has the potential to produce a VR headset with very high-end specifications.
VRHero 5K Plus & Leap Motion Controller
Although there haven’t been any details released yet regarding the design or specifications of the headset, VRgineers has already released its power-packed VRHero 5K head-mounted-display (HMD). The display hosts two high-end Quad HD OLED Displays with built-in custom optics, full 24bit RGB colors, 5k resolution and a 170-degree field-of-view. Indeed some great specs for watching high-definition VR Porn videos.
Meanwhile, Leap Motion has developed its own hand tracker dubbed the ‘Leap Motion Controller’. This is a small USB device which is easily snapped to the front of the VR headset with a plastic mounting kit. The controller was launched in 2013, however, the company released a major software update in 2016 which enhanced and refined its VR-hand-tracking capabilities.
While commenting on this new partnership, Marek Polcak, CEO, and co-founder of VRgineers said: “Embedding Leap Motion’s next-generation hand-tracking technology directly into future VRgineers headsets will allow professional users to interact with VR applications completely naturally using their hands. Having this technology is especially important for us because our high-resolution headsets allow users to see 170º horizontally. Now they can move their virtual hands throughout the headset’s entire field of view without losing sight of them.”
Leap Motion co-founder and CEO, Michael Buckwald also expressed optimism by saying: “Hand tracking is essential to the future of VR experiences. VRgineers is pushing the envelope of what’s possible in VR image quality and fidelity, and embedding Leap Motion technology adds a new dimension to that sense of immersion and realism.”
