Waiting for Apple AR

Claiming to hold the title of “AR fan #1” Apple CEO Tim Cook called augmented reality “one of the very few profound technologies” that could permanently alter the way we live our daily lives.

I think AR is one of these very few profound technologies that we will look back on one day and, ‘How did we lives out without it?’ Already, it’s a great way to shop, it’s a great way to learn, it enhances the learning process. I can’t wait for it to be even more important in collaboration and so forth. So I’m AR fan #1. I think it’s that big.

Pointing to a strong AR push from the company, Cook identified AR as a critically important part of Apple’s future, echoing his earlier comments that AR could prove as popular as the iPhone. Rumors and leaks have suggested Apple is gearing up for the launch of its long-awaited AR glasses sometime in 2022, but rumblings of a more conventional AR/VR hybrid headset are also gaining traction.

Whether Apple’s augmented reality glasses will land first or be supplanted by a more conventional AR/VR hybrid headset remains to be seen. Whatever device Apple leads with will surely push competitors to accelerate their equivalent creations. With AR already proving to be one of the most inspiring and exciting technologies currently under development, Apple is poised to do for AR what its iPod did for portable music listening.

Discreet Deviancy

Apple isn’t exactly fond of porn and has historically encouraged users to keep their iDevices free of explicit adult content. That being said, the iPhone quickly became one of porn viewers’ preferred devices for mobile entertainment. Surely Apple’s AR hardware will follow a similar path and help adult AR become not only more commonplace but more accomplished.

While VR porn delivers incredible experiences, bridging real and virtual elements in a cohesive, unintrusive way could lead the adult arts into genuinely immersive territory. Instead of simply hooking up with a VR starlet via your Oculus, PSVR, or similar, you will choose someone to accompany you on some errands or tag along at work, invisible to others, your extended interactions building towards a masterful sexual experience upon your return to home and privacy.

If Tim Cook truly believes himself to be AR’s #1 fan, he’ll soon have plenty of challengers for that title, porn fans chief among them.
