Brace yourself. The world of sex robots is upon us. Now. Or at least April 15th. That’s the day men worldwide will be able to order Harmony, a fully-functioning, realistic sex robot. She comes with a customizable personality and a memory, and is made by Realbotix.
This post isn’t about this breakthrough or product per se, but about how well virtual reality porn will be able to stand up to the competition of sex with realistic cyborgs.
Reality Competition
Without belaboring the point, let’s clarify that VR porn is all about reality. It’s for someone who doesn’t want to watch two people screwing but wants to feel he (or she) is doing it with the gorgeous starlet in front of him.
It’s kind of hard, no matter how well-made the film is, for it to seem more lifelike than actually doing it. Ownership of a sex bot (which many experts predict will be rentable at some point) means having sex whenever you want it. At that point, you should be basically replicating sex with a woman rather than simulating it. It’s hard to imagine someone interested in VR porn not also being interested in robot sex, as soon as he/she saves up the dough.
VR Porn Beats Boring Old Robot
However, any kind of porn is all about variety. It takes you places and it shows you various stories and various hot women or men. The same dude who gets bored with a woman would get bored with a robot. Of course, you don’t have to be bored to want some spice.
Co-Existing Technologies
People thought TV would replace movies, that hypertext novels would replace regular books, that cars would replace horses and buggies. OK, that last one, they got right. But new technologies can co-exist with others, and VR porn and robots are a match made in heaven.
First, it shouldn’t be too hard for a coordinated and graceful fellow to have sex with the bot while wearing the headset and watching a film. Like a full-bodied fleshlight. You can strap a headset on the bot; get in the mood with movies and go at it with the bot.
Or, you can just—crazy idea—switch back and forth.
It’s worth mentioning, too, that guys with significant others may have a hard time actually buying a sex robot, and would have to settle with an occasional rental, etc. It’s easy to imagine a boyfriend or girlfriend having a problem feeling replaced by a bot yet being cool with a VR headset. So that helps VR porn out.
Fear the Intelligence
Probably the biggest threat to VR porn from robots would be excellent artificial intelligence. Once sex robots get beyond canned phrases and stiff behavior, that could be trouble. VR porn will really have to fight to keep up, though, as outlined above, there should be room for both technologies.
If a sex robot can make a person feel special by remembering likes and dislikes, and finding a way to say just that right thing, it has really hit paydirt. That will probably be more valuable to many users than not having to make her come first. So VR porn would have some work to do. But don’t fear—that kind of artificial intelligence is a long way off.

Sexbots with human touch and working along with VR will make the experience a lot more real-life…

I personally feel that VR is better then sex robots because in VR you get feel of real girls and not some gimmick machine.

Good topic, sexbots and vr porn are the future!
I think they will exist in harmony, though vr porn will definitely win out.
People get bored when they’re married to the hottest women on the planet, they’d definitely get bored of the same old (and expensive) sex robot.
I think sex robots will be great haptic devices for vr. Just get in to vr and the robot can be anything you want.
And about AI, VR will always have AI at least as good as a sexbot. She can talk? Ok, so can the chick in the simulation, they’re hooked up to the same technology.
